Absolutely shocking: "Get the flag in the shot!"

The Pentagon vs. the truth about Pat Tillman

8/20/10 interview with American filmmaker, Amir Bar-Lev, by WNYC's Leonard Lopate, about Amir Bar-Lev's latest film on the death of Pat Tillman.

................................

Lopate: Do you think the family became so suspicious because the story the military came up with sounded like something out of a John Wayne script?

ABL: That's precisely why they did get suspicious. That's exactly what happened. It sounded too heroic and it sounded too much like a movie. We talked about Jessica Lynch for minute. If you see the film, you'll see that we excerpt footage from the Jessica Lynch rescue operation where you clearly hear the camera crew... You see the thing for what it is. The camera crew is saying things that are absolutely shocking. "Get the flag in the shot!" And they're telling her to smile for the camera and things like that. Not one news outlet showed that footage, even though they had it, because it didn't fit in with the female Rambo image they want to give.

Lopate: So even our objective news media are complicit?

ABL: Absolutely complicit. If people think this is a story that looks backwards and points the finger only at the Bush administration, they're going to be disappointed. Because this is a story that is topical. It has to do with our culture. It has to do with our press, as you say. And it has to do with people who were given big jobs under the Obama administration.

It's like we've become a culture that can only hear lies.

6. This is why I ignore the Corporate media
It's just one long mid fuck. I know that some here like KO and Rachel, but I find they cover things I already know most of the time. Besides I think they have to throw in a couple of sane people just to make it look like we have a choice.

7. The Jessica Lynch story is sickening
Edited on Sun Nov-21-10 02:39 PM by proud2BlibKansan
The movie didn't go into detail, but Krakauer does in his book. The army clearly wanted video of Pat Tillman rescuing Jessica Lynch. They even flew him from the US to Iraq so he could be there to rescue Jessica. And they held up actually rescuing her until the cameras were in place to film the whole thing.

14. I think that Jessica was pretty impressive too
She refused the role assigned to her, and praised the Iraqi medical staff for their good treatment of her. She got a special bed with some kind of gel inserts to avoid bedsores--the only one they had. The "rescuers" slashed it to bits, which really upset her.

24. I remember ABC News specifically
They had a recap of the "rescue" of Pvt. Lynch, complete with computer-generated graphics showing the daring night landing of the chopper, the plucky crew fanning out to secure the perimeter, the "raid on Entebbe" style extraction of Lynch, complete with withering gunfire and stiff resistance from evil hospital guards. It was thrilling! And 100% fake, and I'd bet a nickel ABC knew that from the get-go, but their journalistic ideal was not truth or factual reporting, it was serving the Bush administration and their corporate masters.

8. After watching the CNN journalists 'interview' US marines 'invading'
Iraq (Gulf War I) on a beach...I concluded the M$M controls everything and writes our agenda for us. We have the illusion of Democracy and capitalism that the media wants us to believe in and then we have the Truth.

11. Our 'objective media' were totally complicit in the run up to war
Their coverage and war talk reached the highest decibels possible with uber-patriotic overtones that were amazing and shocking. There was no doubt that they were no longer objective.

There were a lot of PNACers in high places of our government and military command at the beginning of the Bush/Cheney Junta...

Here's a list of them I started:

25. My pleasure, Mr Poboy...
Cheney and Rumsfeld are co-conspirators from way back..

Cheney's political career began in 1969, as an intern for Congressman William A. Steiger during the Richard Nixon Administration. He then joined the staff of Donald Rumsfeld, who was then Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity from 1969–70.<12> He held several positions in the years that followed: White House Staff Assistant in 1971, Assistant Director of the Cost of Living Council from 1971–73, and Deputy Assistant to the president from 1974–1975. It was in this position that Cheney suggested in a memo to Rumsfeld that the Ford administration should use the US Justice Department in a variety of legally questionable ways to exact retribution for an article published by The New York Times investigative reporter Seymour Hersh
