I just went through security at Newark Airport. There was nothing different than past times I have
flown. Pretty uneventful. I'm wondering if the new machines have not been implemented here yet. It seems the same as it has been since 2002 or so.

1. They haven't been implemented everywhere yet.

I was flying out of PHL week before last, and they haven't been put in at all terminals there either. I had to go through one on the way back, though.

In other news, Newark's airport is a lovely place to spend an 8-hour layover. :eyes:

3. On the way back from where I am going, I have to connect through Houston
I wonder if they have them there?

True about Newark. Lucklily I am able to use the club of the airline I am flying on, replete with free wifi. Flight does not leave for another 2 hours or so.

On another note, the most intrusive security I have ever been through was returning to the US from Mexico City in 1999. I think I went through at least two scans and a pat down, and I was not singled out for enhanced security, everyone was going through it.

4. USA Today had a list of the airports where they've been put in place.
But again, not all gates/terminals have them. PHL was supposed to be one of the first in the country to have them, but clearly not throughout the entire airport (yet).

Here's the link: http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2010-11-18-airports-with-scanners_N.htm

I think I first saw them in Miami and Arizona...

7. Who knows? First time I saw them was the week before last.
The wife went through one in Toronto a month or two ago.

10. They have six of the new scanners at MSP, where we're flying
from on Christmas. I'm not sure if they're just randomly selecting passengers to go through them, or if everyone does. I believe that it's a random sampling in most airports. If that's the case, most travelers won't experience anything different than going through a metal detector, as usual. I have no idea which I'll end up going through. I don't really care.

A lot of this is anticipatory angst, and some of it is just idle chatter, and often from people who don't fly anyhow. If you fly, you're guaranteed to go through some sort of screening, though. That's a fact. Which it will be will depend on where you're flying from on each flight. It's just some other screening system. They've been changing for years.

11. I have gone through a body scanner three times within the last month.
I found them uneventful. But, I have no concerns about them to begin with.
