If the TSA wants to get serious about security
why don't they focus on figuring out how to scan cargo/baggage (where the real threat is) and checking access to planes by contract and general employees before they subject the flying public to any more shit?

Yes, it's another TSA thread...

1. They do some of this
But due to...corporate concerns, read profits, things like preferred shipping still exists. Mind you it is better than it used to be.

But you are correct, that's one of the holes.

3. some, indeed...
but if someone wants to bring down a plane, cargo is the easiest way to do it...or sneak something in through an airport employee who has access to planes.

2. Why don't we just do........
What Israel does. Works just great for them and it's relatively cheap.

4. been to Israel about 15 times
and while it appears relatively unobtrusive, i doubt that it is inexpensive. several layers, highly trained...would cost $$$ to implement here...but i would prefer it to what we do now...

13. But compare that to......
....the costs for ALL those X-ray machines. Your talking hundreds of millions of dollars.

17. oh, i am not arguing with you...
but the technology they have isn't cheap either. they do a lot more video surveillance than we do...have very complicated software that can identify odd/suspicious behavior. on the other hand, they are much more efficient at this whole security thing than we are. i think if we were REALLY interested in doing security right we could implement more of what they do...

16. He was a great man on many levels...
and I still miss him (really gets me from time to time). I doubt I will ever live up to the man he was...but he is quite the target to shoot for...

10. Bomb-sniffing dogs
Less intrusive and more effective than a grope search. And kids tend to love puppy dogs, even big puppy dogs.

11. because this isn't about security and never has been
It's about making a populous fearful and controlling it with that fear.

It's not like this same scenario hasn't been done before in other countries.
