Passenger Chooses Strip-Down Over Pat-Down, Gets Arrested
Source: Passenger Chooses Strip-Down Over Pat-Down | NBC San Diego
By R. STICKNEY
Updated 6:37 AM PST, Mon, Nov 22, 2010

When a San Diego man opted out of security screening using the Advanced Imaging Technology (AIT) at Lindbergh Field Friday, he stripped down to his underwear in an attempt to avoid the pat-down procedures. Samuel Wolanyk took the protest started Nov. 13 by Oceanside's John Tyner to a whole new level.

While Tyner videotaped his refusal to be patted down, telling the agent "If you touch my junk, I'll have you arrested," Wolanyk decided to give TSA a look at his body down to his Calvin Klein's.

Through a statement released by his attorney Sunday night, Wolanyk said "TSA needs to see that I'm not carrying any weapons, explosives, or other prohibited substances, I refuse to have images of my naked body viewed by perfect strangers, and having been felt up for the first time by TSA the week prior (I travel frequently) I was not willing to be molested again."

Wolanyk's attorney said that TSA requested his client put his clothes on so he could be patted down properly but his client refused to put his clothes back on. He never refused a pat down, according to his attorney.

Wolanyk was arrested for refusing to complete the security process and for recording the incident on his iPhone, according to his attorney.

Someone who is willing to go to jail for what he feels are his 4th Amendment Rights.

3. Small Acts of Resistance.
Wolanyk is a patriot.

Preservation of our civil liberties is the most important thing this country is about.

4. So, the gov't can video monitor us, but we can't video monitor them.
Sounds like Newt Gingrich policy.

7. I fail to see why TSA doesn't allow strip down option in the first place.
Edited on Mon Nov-22-10 10:46 AM by LisaL
I bet many people would prefer that to the naked x-ray scanners and enhanced pat downs.
The fact that the guy says TSA agent demanded the guy put his clothes on in order to properly pat him down suggests to me common sense flew out of the window.
If the guy is undressed down to his underpants that leave nothing to the imagination indicates he is not hiding anything under his clothes, and isn't that what TSA claims they want to verify in the first place?

lowest dollar they can. They got what they paid for. This is not to say there are probably some good folks out there but damn......if the guy is down to his skivies why do they have to touch him?

9. This country is certifiable sometimes....
Really...it's OK for people to grope and scan you but remove your clothing to make it easier and they go apeshit.

I encountered much the same attitude in 1972 during/after the birth of my second child. Any woman who's been through it knows there isn't a whole lot of privacy going on there.

OK so after delivery hubby brings in one of my nice nighties for me to wear instead of those hideous hospital johnnies. Well it was a pretty knee length, peach colored one with lace and long sleeves, elastic scooped neckline and sort of translucent/transparent on top, but totally opaque on bottom. After delivery you sort of have to wear a bra, so that's what I had underneath.

No gratuitous nudity anywhere.

Well a floor nurse got all hissified and told me I had to wear an ugly ass hospital robe over it because...hell...I dunno...

I mean, it wasn't vulgar or sexy or anything....just feminine and pretty.

OK I get it...have your ass and other body parts on display for strangers to see and touch = YES

Cover those parts with something pretty and feminine = NO

fucking insane, that's what it is.

19. I've got an idea. How about wearing clothing made out of transparent
plastic material? In that way, one would still be clothed and the TSA could check for bombs without touching or Xray radiation. No, the virtual nudity would be declared to be indecent. Ah, the irony of it all.
