My Alma Mater is suffering due to shot football players

I went to the University of Southern Mississippi who recently had 3 players shot at night club following a big win over then nationally ranked Central Florida 2 weeks ago. We won our game Saturday and one of the shot players, who has a severed spinal cord, was there and gave a very warm and enduring response from all present. The club has had trouble with a gang in the area and while that would seem to be reason to stay away, the athletic program didn't have the place on the off limits list. I am not aware of how things work with Larry Fedore but unless things have changed since he took over, USM is one of those schools where the athletes are expected to do well in their class work and these 3 players were good students. I don't know why the place they were shot wasn't off limits but from reports I got the club has been sued by the University and has since shut down. Our school isn't a giant university but has a closeness so like all of us I am feeling a lot of sadness over this tragic event. I don't know what a fitting punishment should be because the young men will have so much in medical expenses and one will never walk again, which makes me wonder how do you punish these people who did this and do so where they help offset the cost of this costly treatment? There is a fund to help pay the medical cost at the Southern Miss website so if you want please feel free to go by and help. Good luck to these young men and let's hope these slim bags pay dearly for this. I understand one even laughed and smiled over his crime.
