Chemical explosion at Windsor high school
Emergency crews are responding to a chemical explosion in a Grade 11 science lab at Brennan Catholic High School in Windsor, Ont., where at least four students were hurt.
Raymo Road was blocked off and ambulances and fire trucks surrounded the school.
According to Windsor police, at around 10 a.m. an experiment in a test tube went wrong, causing shards of glass to injure a chemistry teacher. Steve Pellarin received lacerations on his face and legs and was taken to hospital.
Eight students are being examined by medical personnel because a loud explosion left them with ringing in their ears. None of the students received any chemical burns. The experiment included the chemicals potassium chlorate, manganese dioxide, sugar and glycerin.
