Not sure if anyone cares about anyone anymore unless you are a have more. Seniors are taking a hit, unemployed taking a hit, vets are taking a hit, poor are taking a hit - - I am elderly and I don't think I fit in it and no I did not vote for a repuke.

It is a sad situation, but try to look at the glass half full right now. Noone has taken away or privitized SS yet - its only threats at this time. The republicans have been trying to repeal it since its inception.

Why not take a break from the 24/7 news, watch a movie, take a walk, call a friend. You might see things a little rosier tomorrow.

7. Monique - I care. And I was sad yesterday.

Sitting in a early morning meeting with three of my peers and our general manager.
One of them said at one point, for no apparent reason, "that's why we're conservatives!"

I was seconds away from launching into what would have been a blistering response, that would have went something like this.

"What is it about you fucking "conservatives" AND "Christians" that you have to announce to the world what you ARE every 15 fucking seconds? I'm a CONSERVATIVE! I'm a CHRISTIAN! I'm a Tea-Partier!" NO, you know what you are? You are a misinformed, Glen Beck slurping, Neil Cavuto worshiping, right wing asshole, so go ahead and announce THAT to the world you stupid fucking dimwits".

But instead I just sat there.

More families will live together, more friends will double up in apartments. Community is the answer to the fear. Churches can help facilitate the need for community. So can local social services. And each of us has to reach out to make contact with those around us, and be interconnected.

Your neighbors may be feeling the same way. I encourage you to be open to them.

Sounds like you fit in with a lot of DU members who are:

seniors
and/or
unemployed
and/or
vets
and/or
poor
and/or
really tired of it all
and/or
determined to hold onto our values

You sound like...me! for one.
I live in a Red state in a red town of mostly conservative Baptists.
Yikes !!!!

I am discouraged at times, really pissed at the pattern of lawlessnesses in our elected officials,
the economy, etc.
But I also realize I have things I can do today when it gets to be too much:

read a book that cheers me up or takes me away from it all
listen to music on the computer or cds
turn off the damn tv
and today I am baking bread to take to some neighbors, the wife just severely broke her leg and the husband is worried about losing his new job because he has to take her to an out of town doctor.
I KNOW he is not cooking and I know she can't.

My legs work today. I am blessed.
