The nexus between government and the more aggressive sectors of corporate capital was never so visibly obvious as during the presidency of G W Bush. He got into the White House largely through the efforts of the energy and power industries which spent up big to get him elected.
They are indifferent to poverty in the midst of plenty, to war when the people of the world cry out for peace, to the waste of precious resources by the rich for their own amusement, to the diversion of the world’s scientific knowledge to pandering to the whims of the well-to-do while hospitals languish and schools stagnate.
Fortunately, despite the ruling class constantly pushing obscurantism at us, the truths of science are so well established now and so self-evident that, providing people maintain the pressure in support of a scientific viewpoint, they are slowly but inexorably winning the day.
In the meantime we just have to keep these assorted nutters from destroying the planet!
