Army Tests New Combat Uniforms for Women

Female soldiers in the U.S. Army may be getting a new uniform specifically designed to fit a woman’s body. The plan is to make the new uniform form-fitting while not showing off “any curves,” Major Sequana Robinson, assistant product manager for uniforms at Program Executive Office (PEO) Soldier, told Stars and Stripes. “It is just a better fit for the female body. It sets off a more professional look.”

The changes came about after the Army surveyed a number of female personnel about current uniforms, which were designed for men. Staff Sergeant Jessika Malott said: “The cut of the uniform and a female’s body type usually leaves us looking like a duffel bag.”

The Army plans to have the new uniform available within two to three years, at which time there will be more than 70 combinations of sizes for coats and trousers.

Maybe it was a MALE general who reviewed his troops, saw a bunch of women stuffed into gunny sacks and decided it reflected poorly on him. However, it was women that answered the survey with a probably resounding "Yes please!".

Simple truth is a buff man is wedge shaped, but a buff woman will always have her hips and a waist, not to mention the overhang above.

Since women have been in the military they've had to wear fatigues designed to fit a man's body, which means they don't properly fit most of the women. If I was in combat the last thing I'd want to have to worry about is my ill-fitting uniform hampering me in any way.

Women in the military deserve to have clothing that's designed to fit them properly as the men have always had. Women in the military have been complaining about this forever, and it has nothing to with with how it looks, it's how it FITS.
