Before Ya'll get too happy about Delay's "conviction"
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 07:12 PM by BlueCollar
You do know he will appeal to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals....

and....

"Selection of judges"

The Governor, subject to Senate confirmation, may appoint a judge to serve out the remainder of any unexpired term until the next general election.

"Like the Texas Supreme Court, the Judges of the Court of Criminal Appeals are currently all Republican."

3. They still have to follow the law
Only legal points can be appealed and they will have some case law basis.

4. The conviction can only be overturned if there is a significant error made
during trial. Under our judicial tradition, you're guaranteed a fair trial, not a perfect one.

15. No. It's a state case
brought by the Travis County D.A. and tried by a Travis County jury.

12. That's the real ticket. Perry. Delay will remain out during appeal (for years) then at the last
minute Perry will pardon the asshole. The time will be to let things "cool down".

8. He Will Forever Be Known As A Felon...
:bounce:

Yes, he can appeal and will, but appears the jury in this case came home with a very solid, unanimous verdict. Short of doing a retrial, which I don't see any grounds to do, the appeal will be based on the ruling of the jury. Sure, a paid off judge could wipe it all away and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. Bottom line is when faced with his own peers, the jury found him guilty!!!!

17. Guilty?
Yes the jury found him guilty but we'll see if that keeps him in jail. Rich thieves have a way of finding a way out, or their rich lawyers find it for them.

19. Yes Guilty
Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 07:35 PM by KharmaTrain
Being guilty doesn't mean being in jail. While I will cherish the day he's in an orange jump suit, perception in our world is reality and the fact that peers...regular folks found him to be a criminal will always hang over him. He may never spend a day behind bars, but he'll never remove this mark...no judge or rich lawyer can do it. He's guilty! :bounce:

On Edit: DeLay had one of the most high powered lawyers around...Dick DeGuerin who had kept Rover out of jail in the Plame case...he blew the case big time.

his political career back, but I bet he never ends up in jail. I'm celebrating tonight.

21. Wiped the smirk right off Delay's
fat mug. That made me happy. Tom isn't smiling today. He'll be miserable for a while, at least.

I'm happy he's squirming, at least for the time being.
