Faded Seaside Glamour was a great album, for fans of brit-pop at least.

7. If I stop to think of it all, I'll start crying.
Forgive me, I'm pregnant and a bit more hormonal than usual, but really, I've been that fortunate.

-My indescribably wonderful husband

-My family

-My education, 4 degrees, 3 post-graduate, all supported by my government and fellow Americans

-My soon to be born child (God willing)

-My wonderful pets

Not a day goes by that I don't realized how much more I have received than I have given. And I'm working on balancing that out.

13. thankful for the sustainable basics
That I live in a nice house,

in a small, historic town, with wonderful, pure, spring water.

I sleep in a lovely bed with clean sheets,

have plenty of appropriate clothing,

have several pairs of shoes to wear.

I'm thankful for my gainful employement

with people with whom I often disagree

but we share some values, and work together for

the common good.

I'm thankful for a full refrigerator,

cable television,

lots of books, a computer, a cell phone,

and for occasional peace.

I'm thankful for sites like DU that remind me that

I'm not alone in my beliefs.

And thankful for a country that could elect President Obama,

and for his rational approach. Sometimes I don't agree with him,

but I trust him. I do.

Much more, but coffee's ready.

16. Happy Thanksgiving DU'ers
As I prepare to begin cooking all day :) I am happy to list things I am thankful for:

My family, especially my two children and two precious grandchildren

My friends

President Obama and his family and our true Democratic leadership

The fact that I have a good, stable job

Our health

My cat, Joe (he has had a rough year)

My intuition & intelligence

I'm thankful for essential oils - The Creator's Medicine

I'm very thankful that my mother's health appears to be stable. She has emphysema and COPD and is on oxygen 24/7 (also on Medicaid and a conservative, go figure - but love her !)

I'm thankful that I live in America even if right now we have a bunch of idiots who are about to be handed power

I'm thankful for trees and plants and I never, ever take them for granted. I acknowledge their beauty and sacrifice every single day

I'm thankful for art and science and those brilliant and creative minds who create them

I'm sure there is more that I can't think of right now...I'm also very thankful for DU and Media Matters and the other liberal sites that keep me informed with the truth about our country.

Today I will keep an ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE - and I wish the same for all my friends on DU

Namaste,
Annette in Memphis TN

23. I'm thankful for
my wonderful new wife of 2 1/2 months. Our daughter Madison, who was born the day after Obama's inauguration. The family I'll share dinner with today; my Mom, Dad, sister, grandma, aunts and uncles. Oh, and my Sun Conure parrot... sometimes, when he isn't squawking.

The Internet! There are so many great places to get information now-a-days. (Thanks Al Gore ;-) ).

Feedly. Feedly is a program that takes your Google reader RSS feeds and lays them out in a magazine like format. It makes large numbers of rss feeds readable and manageable. I don't know how I survived without it.

Netflix and IPTV. With AT&T's cable services I can use the coax cable in my walls to not just carry TV shows but also run a computer network. With that and a netflix enhanced BluRay player I can finally run my entertainment, games, internet video and computing over one consolidated network.

Unemployment insurance. Since I've had to use it in the last 2 years I am very thankful it was there.

30. I am thankful for
I am thankful:

For the wife
Who says it's hot dogs tonight
Because she is home with me
And not out with someone else.

For the husband
Who is on the sofa
Being a couch potato
Because he is home with me
And not out at the bars.

For the teenager
Who is complaining about doing dishes
Because it means she is at home,
Not on the streets.

For the taxes I pay
Because it means
I am employed.

For the mess to clean after a party
Because it means I have
Been surrounded by friends

For the clothes that fit a little too snug
Because it means
I have enough to eat.

For my shadow that watches me work
Because it means
I am out in the sunshine.

For a lawn that needs mowing,
Windows that need cleaning,
And gutters that need fixing
Because it means I have a home.

For all the complaining
I hear about the government
Because it means
We have freedom of speech.

For the parking spot
I find at the far end of the parking lot
Because it means
I am capable of walking,
And I have been blessed with transportation.

For my huge heating bill
Because it means
I am warm.

For the lady behind me in church
Who sings off key
Because it means I can hear.

For the pile of laundry and ironing
Because it means
I have clothes to wear.

For weariness and aching muscles
At the end of the day
Because it means I have been
Capable of working.

For the alarm that goes off
In the early morning hours
Because it means
I am alive.

And finally, for too much e-mail
Because it means
I have friend who is thinking of me.

37. I'm thankful for my family and friends and the love we share.
That all but one in our family is employed.

That my son and d-i-l got permanent custody of his 3 sons.

That my sister might be able to get married some day to her partner.

That I live in the USA, warts and all, I love my country.

That Barack Obama is POTUS and really gives a damn about we the people.

That I'm on vacation this week.

That I have met so many really good Democrats here at DU and we are all working for a better USA.

That the coffee grinder worked this morning.

That my ex is cooking the ham to go with our family dinner today, as always.

That these internets exists and we're all real people who have found a common ground...a port in the storm.

Most of all I think I'm thankful for the diversity in our family...developmentally disabled and gifted, gay and straight, African-American and White, married and divorced and widowed, short, tall, chubby and skinny...and that my grandsons have grown up knowing that we're all the same. We laugh, we love, and we are our brothers and sisters keepers.

I miss my Mom and Dad.

47. My husband's bosses. . . (actually NICE guys)
Hubby was unemployed 90 weeks and we were dreading admission to the 99-week club. His former employer, the one that layed him off, called him in for contract work (hubby is a petrochemical engineer). So far the contract has lasted 8 weeks beyond the original date and I think his bosses are a big reason -- they are keeping him busy. It does happen -- they do have a hear.

Blessings to all here struggling or not struggling. Just for one 24-hour period -- have a nice, pieceful day.

I am thankful that there are still some people in high places in our government who care about the people.

I am thankful to be alive. I almost didn't make it earlier this summer when I fell, fractured my skull and my brain started hemorrhaging. Fortunately, I got through it, and I am still here and still functioning.

I am also thankful that I completed my doctorate before I fell. I am not sure I would have been able to do it in the months following the fall.

There are many other things I am thankful for this year, but these are the major, most personal items.

And was so thankful that it was just a nightmare that I cannot even put into words the joy had in just knowing she was ok, even she is at her mom's (she will be here later).

Got up, had some Ham (we pre-baked it last night, also have 2 turkeys cooking, and more) and posted on DU and was thankful that I was just sitting here all alone in the early AM.

And, I am grateful that I will have a little money to spare to give to others who are not as lucky as I am right now, and need a little help.

I am so thankful that I woke up this morning with my husband, a warm house, running water, good coffee, loving animals, and enough to eat. I am thankful for my family--my 83 year old parents, three sisters, husband and two children and that we all still care about each other and love one another.

I am also thankful for:

President Obama

Nancy Pelosi

The internet

DU--I think I would have gone crazy without DU when everyone around me was telling me to get over the stolen election and that * would be OK. I appreciate all the knowledge I've gained here and all the wonderful people here.

81. A thanks to Dan Savage
For starting a campaign to GLBT youth, who are sadly affected by the hate and bigotry of their families, their school mates, religious bigots who spread hate, that tells those kids that have actually contemplated suicide that "It Gets Better". I have watched many of the "It Gets Better" videos made by celebrities, politicians, people in public life and ordinary Americans and I have been moved, often to tears, watching people...care...about these kids.

I also thank my wonderful family, friends and the love of my life, my partner, Doug.

A few:

Family and friends
President Obama
My dog Stinky
That I live in Houston where we seldom have snow and ice.
Rain and rainbows. Flowers and trees. Birds and butterflies.
Wireless laptops and DU
The turkey in the oven and all the trimmings
Our volunteer military
Nurses, doctors, policefolks, firemen
Also thankful that after our huge tree fell on all the wires a couple of weeks ago - the electrician, electric company, cable guy, phone man, and tree crew got everything back to normal in 48 hours. Even though it's been a couple weeks, everyday I am still very thankful that we weren't without electric/phone/cable/computer for TWO WEEKS like the last time the other tree fell on the wires during hurricane Ike :)

88. I am thankful for a lot of things
my family -- especially my mother and brother

my friends -- especially my best friend, who is like a second mother to me

my church family -- most are very accepting and non-judgmental, we do a lot for the poor and for orphans, the very definition of "Christ-follower"

my job and (most of) my co-workers -- working at Wal-mart isn't the greatest job in the world, and it definitely doesn't pay much, but it's a job and I'm glad to have one right now.

Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, and now Lawrence O'Donnell -- the only people in the M$M I can trust.

Last, but not least -- I'm thankful for DU and the friends I have made here. I live in a very red part of the country; almost everyone I know are rabid right-wingers, and it's refreshing to find like-minded people here. DU has saved my sanity many times, especially this past election when things didn't go well for us. I hope to be on DU for a long, long time. :)

93. My job, as I turn 60 next year. My family, my pets, my books, my DU.
I am moving in with my significant other in December and leaving my beautiful, 1886 apartment to do so, as she lost her job Jan. 1 and at her age, has little chance of finding another. But I'm grateful that I have a good one where I can do good societal things, and she will keep her house because of it.

I'm grateful for my dog and cats, including the doggie we put down at 15 three weeks ago. I'm grateful that we rescued her at 10 years old and had five wonderful years with her (she's missed). I'm grateful for my ridiculous rescued cats, too, one as a kitten 13 years ago and another at 9 two years ago. And the remaining doggie, also rescued.

I'm grateful to have dear friends that go back 40 years and more. I miss them because I am away from them, but I hope to see them more often.

I'm grateful for northern lower Michigan, and Traverse City. I hope to retire there, but like Michael Moore and Mario Batali, I have a mystical connection to the area. I'm grateful for that.

I'm grateful to DU. I get cranky here sometimes, but I am grateful for the antidote to hate that is present here. You can include Keith and Rachel, too.

I'm grateful to the Lions. Blown out again today, but they are a bridge to history for this native Detroiter. My Spartans, Red Wings and Pistons, too. And of course the Tigers, especially Al Kaline, my surrogate father. And of course, Sparky Anderson and Ernie Harwell, to whom we said goodbye this year.

I'm grateful to those who continue to fight the Good Fight on global warming and the environment in the face of so much opposition and hatred. And ignorance.

I'm grateful for the seasons, good food, the Beatles, good Christmas movies, my late Mom, my living brother, and my daughter. And to pungent humor, Turner Classic Movies, HGTV, The Food Network, Chasing Classic Cars and the Big Ten Network, among others. Since I watch zero shows like dancing with somebody Palin, I better thank those I do watch.

And I am thankful to the great books I have read and continue to read every single night and the authors who have written them: Bruce Catton, David Halberstam, William L. Shirer, John Steinbeck, and that newest of the new writers, Mark Twain, and his autobiography. And hundreds of others. And artists, way too many too mention. Architects, too.

In other words, I have way too much for which to be grateful, and way too much that I complain about. And I'm grateful to be able to do that, too.

94. My oldest is safely home from school, he and his brothers
are having a great time, and that warms the hearts of parents who observe from the sidelines.

We just got home from my Mom's, we had food to eat, everyone is healthy as far as we know right now, and so all is good. I still miss my Dad and MIL, we must muddle along.

Oh, and the stray cat that I noticed in my driveway in mid July, and thought that it was going to starve to death in my driveway, has a shiny coat, tries to play and has a bit of a belly now. Sometimes, it's the little things that give me joy.

I may be raising hell tomorrow, but for now I'm peaceful. Hope that you are, too.

103. I'm thankful for....
....a wonderful group of Progressives, right here at DU, who truly keep real hope alive....

....in this era of greed, self-aggrandizement and uncertainty it's a pleasure to find so many selfless and caring people expressing their beliefs and convictions....bless you all....

106. That I'm not underground . . yet.
I don't want to sound like Patrick Henry, but that's how I feel.
I'm going to be fighting until the day that somebody starts throwing dirt over me.

(former) (p)Resident George W. Bush.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Why, you may ask? Because if it had not been for that Administration, I would not have had my connection to my values and capacity to persevere tested to the very core. I would not have had the political and spiritual awakenings I have enjoyed this past decade, which inspired me to seek better for myself. Had I not done so, I would not be alive to type this post, let alone do anything good for myself or others.

Okay, a tiny part of me just wanted to write all that in order to one up Skinner's confession about disposal diapers.

108. My "miracle" dog who despite prognosis is still with me 18 months
later and doing well (abdominal cancer)....

**Of course my wonderful sister who is always there for me... my extended family

**My friends--many who are always there for me

and, in no specific order:

**Coffee, absolutely... good coffee

**Democratic Underground.. without doubt my sanity

**The Internet

**Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, NPR (generally), Michael Moore, those remaining "truth-tellers" in Congress, including Alan Grayson, those remaining courageous and "truthful" reporters, including Jeremy Scahill, Michael Ware and others

** those who share my love and concern for animals

**My 64G Ipod Touch (what a marvel of engineering and I know that I owe this to some who may have suffered in their manufacture)

109. Another day in paradise, lol
I've been through some things in my life that convinced me I wouldn't live to see 30. I'm far past that now, outliving my father--and now my little brother.

I'm thankful for one more day on this planet--I've already had way too many that I never expected.

Being thankful for family--even the few I have left--is a given. What I am most amazed by and thankful for is the many friends that I have. They are such special, special people and I don't know why in hell I deserve to have them.

Yes, I am very thankful. For the people in my life. Nothing else matters...

110. For my two fantastic kids (adopted)
I'm also thankful for the perspective I gain in my view of America from living in a developing nation.
I'm thankful to have grown up in America and that I can return one day when my life is here is finished.
I'm thankful to my ex who led me to see that I wanted kids much more than I wanted him.
I'm thankful for internet, that has expanded my world beyond my wildest imagination.
I'm thankful for the human traits of curiosity and love.
And a whole lot more.

111. I am still "on top of the sod and not under it". . .
Edited on Fri Nov-26-10 10:44 AM by DinahMoeHum
I was out of commission for most of the first half of this year due to a bout with diverticulitis, which involved having a TEMPORARY colostomy for 4 months.

That's all been in the past since May, but I still feel some discomfort due to the inner stitches, and I've only recently gotten clearance from my doctor to do exercise more strenuous than walking (ie. weight training).

But...I'm still here and kicking!

And, as some character said in the movie Scarface (1983): "Every day above ground is a good day."

:kick:
