5. Wow. I just made a rare OP ever at DU about Ireland.

I love Ireland's beauty, culture, history, and mystery. My paternal great grandfather and grandfather came to California in 1870s and 1880s respectively. My father's mother was Scotch Irish from a 17th century Virginia family that came to what is one of the most remote areas of California in 1859.

I was visiting my relatives in County Down when Bobby Sands died -- 1981, first trip to Europe. On the other hand, my Dad had never mentioned his father and grandfather were Irish Catholic and my Jewish musician exe had turned me on to Irish music before the trip. I came home and read Uris's Trinity and educated myself over the years.

I hope the best to the Irish and share their uncertainty.
