Palin Has Thanksgiving Tantrum
Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 10:31 PM by kpete
While i cannot verify that she wrote the message herself, I can verify that it was her Facebook Page. Every president, even Richard Nixon, has been able to let criticisms slide for one day. If Palin is serious about running, how does she plan to deal with the national press? How does she plan to cope with the Manchester Union-Leader editorial board? What's more, how will she react when the South Carolina State Republican Party unleashes the hounds on behalf of their chosen candidate? If Palin thinks she has it tough now, she hasn't seen anything yet. She better get a thick skin or get out of the way.

My fellow Americans in all 57 states, the time has changed for come. With our country founded more than 20 centuries ago, we have much to celebrate – from the FBI’s 100 days to the reforms that bring greater inefficiencies to our health care system. We know that countries like Europe are willing to stand with us in our fight to halt the rise of privacy, and Israel is a strong friend of Israel’s. And let’s face it, everybody knows that it makes no sense that you send a kid to the emergency room for a treatable illness like asthma and they end up taking up a hospital bed. It costs, when, if you, they just gave, you gave them treatment early, and they got some treatment, and ah, a breathalyzer, or an inhalator. I mean, not a breathalyzer, ah, I don’t know what the term is in Austrian for that…

Of course, the paragraph above is based on a series of misstatements and verbal gaffes made by Barack Obama (I didn’t have enough time to do one for Joe Biden). YouTube links are provided just in case you doubt the accuracy of these all too human slips-of-the-tongue. If you can’t remember hearing about them, that’s because for the most part the media didn’t consider them newsworthy. I have no complaint about that. Everybody makes the occasional verbal gaffe – even news anchors.

Obviously, I would have been even more impressed if the media showed some consistency on this issue. Unfortunately, it seems they couldn’t resist the temptation to turn a simple one word slip-of-the-tongue of mine into a major political headline. The one word slip occurred yesterday during one of my seven back-to-back interviews wherein I was privileged to speak to the American public about the important, world-changing issues before us.

If the media had bothered to actually listen to all of my remarks on Glenn Beck’s radio show, they would have noticed that I refer to South Korea as our ally throughout, that I corrected myself seconds after my slip-of-the-tongue, and that I made it abundantly clear that pressure should be put on China to restrict energy exports to the North Korean regime. The media could even have done due diligence and checked my previous statements on the subject, which have always been consistent, and in fact even ahead of the curve. But why let the facts get in the way of a good story? (And for that matter, why not just make up stories out of thin air – like the totally false hard news story which has run for three days now reporting that I lobbied the producers of “Dancing with the Stars” to cast a former Senate candidate on their show. That lie is further clear proof that the media completely makes things up without doing even rudimentary fact-checking.)

1. Silly Sarah. Barack Obama has demonstrated a history
of being an informed, educated man who is aware of both foreign and domestic politics.

You, on the other hand, have not. You have, on the contrary, shown yourself to be a buffoon of the highest order. Now please kindly go fuck yourself with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire.

Really, this has to be a hoax. Even Sarah isn't so stupid she doesn't know there are 50 states. Or is she?

Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 10:42 PM by jancantor
Her point was that it was Obama who mentioned the 57 states... (he probably meant 47, since he said he had one to go, and wouldn't be going to Alaska or Hawaii)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpGH02DtIws

and that it was ignored in the media. That's her claim. It wasn't "ignored". I certainly remember it, but then admittedly I read media from all sides of the political polygon.

59. If it had been ignored, then
nobody could have possibly gotten the reference. People knew it was a slam against Obama because of the extensive coverage his minor gaffe got.

The difference, to my mind, is that you can be certain Obama actually knows how many states there are. With Palin on North versus South Korea, you can't be sure that she actually knows.

32. Barack Obama slipped and said that during the Presidential campaign
That was a slip of the tongue, I think there are 57 primaries, if you include the US territories, like Puerto Rico and Guam. But I feel confident that Obama knows the difference, not so much that Palin does.

60. That suggests that she has some writers, doesn't it?
That's probably how they plan to ram her through the primaries. Script everything. Avoid debates. Keep her on a leash.

She will end up being a scripted puppet with as much of a leadership role as Reagan had. Hell, she's not even interested in being President. She's interested in playing President. She could give a shit about actual, boring policy. She's thinking about the china, the drapes, and the State dinners.

18. He meant the 57 voting "territories" during the primary
Other than the 50 states, the presidential candidates during a primary can receive delegates from:

1) American Samoa
2) Democrats Abroad
3) DC
4) Guam
5) Puerto Rico
6) Texas (Texas has both primary and caucus delegates, so gets counted twice)
7) Virgin Islands

21. Fair enough,
I remembered a discussion during the primary, and, if you check the primary territories, there are 57 of them. Both snopes and urbanlegend support the 47 instead of 57 rationale, which makes sense in relation to the actual quote. Consider my argument rescinded.

I appreciate it. He misspoke. I certainly consider it highly unlikely he thinks there are 60 states :)

He probably quickly subtracted 3 from 50, and said "57" instead of 47, which is an understandable mistake.

51. 57 primaries?
I don't think so. Most likely then-candidate Obama's reference was to "fifty ... no, forty-seven states," only he forgot to say the "no, forty" part when he corrected himself. He was probably tired from a long day of campaigning or something.

He's not the first political leader to make such a gaffe, and won't be the last. The late Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, Sr., had a lot of famous gaffes, as did the late Pres. Richard Nixon.

Maybe it was something about being Irish. I think the late Pres. Reagan had a few too. I don't know if either former Gov. Palin or Pres. Obama is Irish, though.
