North Korean refugee website..... for those defending Kim.
www.northkoreanrefugees.com/2007-09-atbirth.htm

And before you start on about conservative propaganda. I know a guy from California who works with North Korean refugees and had this fellow as a roommate for a couple months. The guy I know is a flaming liberal.

So, say what you want about USA and SK actions. I by no means support a war. But don't go talking about how North Korea is some misunderstood bunch of underdogs.

1. Totalitarians are often "misunderstood"
How could we unfairly misjudge them so when they always have such egalitarian constitutions, lol? And when their per capita income is so impressive (at least, before the power elite gets its share).

All those reports of starvation among the people must be greatly exaggerated. Dear Leader would surely give up the vast sums he spends on booze if his people really were impoverished. :sarcasm:

2. I wonder if he knows even
Lots of people think that

A: The military ACTUALLY controls NK and he is a figurehead
B: He's totally kept in the dark about what is actually going on

But who knows? I guess this will all be clear one day.

10. An oldie, but a goodie...
Blowin' in the Wind

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?

Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Yes, 'n' how many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?

Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Yes, 'n' how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?

Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

North Korea was relatively the "good guys"! While South Korea was not only reactionary and dictatorial, but the bloody oppression was pretty much on the same scale as in NK!

I was expecting at least someone on this thread to question that statement, and was preparing a reply that would be both convincing and properly sourced. But I put that aside, when it seemed that this thread had died.

I'm not sure that your above is a meaningful response, so could you please try again?

45. Sigh!!
Recently here on DU, I had expressed some irritation over a content-free Obama-bashing OP. A self-anointed Keeper of the Flame then responded with a one-liner, which included the words: "YOU ASSHOLE!"

I then quoted that one-liner in the subject header, followed by "n/t". The discussion went downhill from there, and the Mod locked the thread, and finally expunged it altogether. Is that your Hidden Agenda here?

Best Regards,
His Excellency

18. And is it possible, in your mind, to not defend Kim and suggest that perhaps the US is playing
a very dangerous game on the Korean peninsula that is needlessly fanning the flames of a fire that may quickly grow out of control? Sort of like how one can admit that Saddam was a bad guy, but also believe that US policy towards Iraq was still unjust and unwise?

Kim is mentally ill, and North Korea is very scary place, but we're not exactly benevolent actors in that part of the world either. And I don't think a second Korean War is really desirable.

Edited on Sun Nov-28-10 01:18 AM by HEyHEY

Beating the drums of war, you're just looking for a fight. If I said, "Oh, it'll be a long drawn out battle" how the fuck is that any difference? You asked, I answered... god, there's PLENTY of people on the internet looking to beat the drums of war, go find one of them. Reactionary brat.

44. Because "It won't be a long war" and "We'll be seen as liberators" are usually part of the pitch...
for war.

You can say that it's a mere prognostication, but everyone who posts here has personally witnessed at least two wars being "sold" to the public in the last 10 years and we're all familiar with the pattern. Even if it is just a prediction, it is going read within the context of our experience with another two short wars that don't seem to be ending.

I can say that I don't support mugging people, but if I stand on the corner and say to my friends.

1. Here come's old drunk Sam from the bar.
2. He makes all his money pimping out HS girls.
3. He's likely to be carrying the money now.
4. He's walking poorly, I bet he's drunk.
5. He's a real douchebag.
6. You have utility payments due.

I'm not technically advocating for a crime to take place, but I do seem to be suggesting one by my choice of statements.
