Police: Vermont man killed in gun prank

Police say victim was shot in the chest
Alleged shooter and victim were guests at the home where shooting occurred

(CNN) -- A 24-year-old Vermont man was fatally shot by a friend who used a gun in a prank, police said.

The alleged shooter apparently tried to prank his sleeping friend by waking him up with the loud sound of an air rifle, police said.

However, police said, the man mistakenly used a real rifle in the prank.

Nicholas Bell, 23, was charged with manslaughter after the incident Thursday, Manchester police said.

anything involving a weapon...fake or otherwise is not a good idea

Years ago, when we lived in the Chicago area, there was a story in the paper about a woman who kept leaving her bedroom patio doors unlocked.. To "teach her a lesson", her boyfriend "broke in" one night and she whacked him on the head with a baseball bat....he died of a brain hemorrhage....Apparently she heard him and hit him before he could identify himself..:(
