Couple Asking World: Birth Or Abortion?

A firestorm is erupting over a Minnesota couple's online poll asking visitors whether they should terminate their pregnancy.

Pete and Alisha Arnold's website, birthornot.com, has drawn ire from people on both sides of the abortion debate. A poll on the site asks simply, "Should we give birth or have an abortion?"

As of Thursday evening, more than 44,000 votes had been cast, and 80 percent of respondents said the couple should continue the pregnancy, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported. So many people weighed in from both sides of the issue that the site crashed Thursday.

Alisha Arnold maintained the site was not a hoax and the couple had no "hidden agenda." She also said they weren't looking for media attention.

Pete’s beliefs are still suspect. The self-described "conservative libertarian" has a vanity plate on his car that reads "Zeeboid," the Minneapolis City Pages revealed. Even Pete’s understanding of the issues is ill-conceived. As Gawker points out, "the vast majority of people who are pro-choice aren't pro-abortion, so it wouldn't figure that they would automatically vote for the abortion option. The only people who would probably vote for the abortion are trolls who want to piss off pro-lifers."
