When it comes to responding to this sort of stuff, partisans on the left and right react pretty much the same.

Both sides feign outrage when the other makes fun of something like this which is almost laughable hypocritical.

When it comes right down to it, the difference between left and right is mostly that one sides trusts government more than business, and the other trusts business more than government. That is really the core of the difference in worldviews.

Partisans on both sides are human and pull the same types of political tricks, take advantage of any mistake or foible a political opponents makes, call one another Nazi's pretty much evenly, etc.

The classic example of this is when some nut goes and shoots up a post office or IRS department, watch how fast partisans on both sides search for excuses to pin that nut to their political opponents, and then watch them howl in outrage the other side is doing exactly what they are doing.

We are all human and people here and on conservative sites know how to play the game and understand the significance of winning a few media cycles.

Yes, they are wrong and we are right on policy - but much of the partisan viciousness is equally evident on both sides. Sometimes it is done in fun, a reason to laugh amongst ourselves, but for others almost anything to destroy their political opponents is worth doing as they feel the ends justify the means. I am political partisan myself and I want to win, so I am pointing a finger directly at myself too.

Sadly enough, there are so many vile comments about the POTUS that the ones posted in FR are seen as child's play. The lack of empathy and respect in this country is rather astounding. The pretzel incident was rather rough, but it doesn't amount to the hateful crap posted in the Internet when it comes to Mr. Obama. It seems that now, people let their hate speak as a form of criticism instead of their intellect. :(
