"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting
different results".

That is attributed to Albert Einstein, but you don't really have to be a genius to totally understand how true it is.

So, someone please tell me: WHY are we still talking about "bipartisanship"?

Can someone give me an example of actual bipartisanship occurring during the Obama administration?

Haven't we been spit on, crotch-kicked and laughed at enough?

Seriously, people, does this repetitive grovelling make any sense to anyone?

I have tried to avoid drawing a line in the sand, but extending the Bush Tax Cuts for the yachting class just may be my limit.

7. So---what? Stock up on survival rations and ammunition? Why are we bothering to post
here?

If "both sides" are out to get us, why bother with trying to elect Democrats?

I could agree that the Democratic Party is less than it should be and I could agree that some may as well switch parties, but I have to hope that we have enough integrity left on our side of the aisle to reclaim our souls.

If that's "clueless", I plead guilty.

But, back to my OP, how in hell can anyone in our party face their constituents if they vote to shift even more of the burden of financing our government off the very wealthiest and onto the backs of working people?

13. I understand, but whether you call them centrists or moderates or independents, they are, in
large part, people who don't have the guts or the intelligence to have a philosophy of governance. Is this who we want determing our course?

Screw 'em!

Let's prevail first, and then worry about making nice.

15. Not exactly
DLC does have a philosophy of governance. It was to turn the Democratic party into a submissive branch of the republican party, and they've succeeded.

The ONLY political dogma unhindered by a foundation on Policy or Ideals.
Centrists don't have to STAND for ANYTHING,
and get to insult those who do!!!

4. It is *wrongly* attributed to Einstein
I take issue with it only because Einstein is the most over-invoked quote-source on the entire internets.

9. I am aware that some dispute Einstein as the source, but that is the first attribution
I found when I Googled the quote.

Do you know who SHOULD be creditted?

14. Rita Mae Brown in her 1983 novel "Sudden Death"
Others will protest that Einstein himself died long before Brown published the novel in which the (approximate) line first appears, so therefore he must have beaten her to the line, but I've never seen anyone put forth an actual, verifiable source for the Einstein attribution.

27. It's also not remotely the definition of insanity
To the extent "insanity" has a definition (professionals avoid using it for the most part), it's any of a spectrum of abnormal ideations and behaviors.

6. "you don't really have to be a genius to totally understand how true it is."
But the saying is not true. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is the heart of practice. If a person wishes to become better at something, they do it over and over again, and they usually do get different results.

10. Fail
When one practices, one tends to make changes to improve. Practice is NOT doing the same thing over and over again.

Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfection.
Constant reenforcement of the wrong thing does nothing but ingrain bad habits.

24. Learning from mistakes is a lot different than practicing them
When you practice a mistake it becomes a bad habit.

Practicing the right thing becomes a good habit.

29. President Obama has been trying different approaches on the subject of
bipartisanship, which was the main focus of his campaign. So I don't think we can accuse him of forming bad habits on this subject.

30. I was speaking generally but he is pursuing an path chock full of insanity
There is no possible bipartisanship with the Republicans and I did not interpret such as being the centerpiece of his campaign but rather change from the failed policies that broke our economy and ruined our name around the world.

The Republican ideology is busted beyond repair and that party's partisans would prefer the nation go down the tubes than cooperate with anyone, especially a black Democrat.

Anybody that still believes in this nonsense is certifiable. Santa Claus makes more sense and is far, far, far less dangerous.

23. Have you missed the reaction of liberals/progressives to Obama's comments re compromise?
Don't think anyone considers this anything but insanity --

we need a new presidential candidate in 2012 -- someone who actually represents

the interests of the people -- a Democratic who I hope would also be a humanisdt --

and preferablly not a wealthy Democrat!
