2. Should be called Humble Telescope, because after seeing the images from this eye in the sky

with the thousands and millions of galaxies stretched from here to the farthest distances our ability to see allows, who could not begin to wonder how minuscule our little planet and all of it's inhabitants are.

That, of course, is by scale. So far, the question of whether we are alone in this vast expanse is unanswered, but given just the odds, my God, how could we be?

3. You post the most interesting Stuff... I think you're in the Top 5 Most Interesting Posters on DU.
I've often wondered what pictures Hubble has taken that we've never been shown. Seriously though, when I found out that some Hubble pics were artificially colored, I haven't been able to see them the same way.

Keep the Good Stuff coming SS.

12. Thanks my friend. As far as the coloring goes:
Taking color pictures with the Hubble Space Telescope is much more complex than taking color pictures with a traditional camera. For one thing, Hubble doesn't use color film — in fact, it doesn't use film at all. Rather, its cameras record light from the universe with special electronic detectors. These detectors produce images of the cosmos not in color, but in shades of black and white.

Finished color images are actually combinations of two or more black-and-white exposures to which color has been added during image processing.

The colors in Hubble images, which are assigned for various reasons, aren't always what we'd see if we were able to visit the imaged objects in a spacecraft. We often use color as a tool, whether it is to enhance an object's detail or to visualize what ordinarily could never be seen by the human eye.
