Anyone live near a big holiday display? What do you think of this?
Edited on Sat Nov-27-10 11:59 AM by proud2BlibKansan
This house is just a few blocks from where I grew up and not far from where I live now. And what this man does every Christmas is just awesome. The only problem is you have to get out of your car and walk up to the house to take it all in. So traffic on this small residential street is a mess every December.

Watch the video: http://www.kctv5.com/news/25932879/detail.html

I can understand the neighbors being irritated. We used to live on a hot air balloon race route and several times every summer, we could't get up our street or in and out of our driveway from the cars following the hot air balloons. It was a mess. I've never enjoyed hot air balloons since.

But, like every other year, I will be driving by this house to see the Christmas display again this year :)

2. We used to have a pretty gaudy display
And we have only one neighbor to get pissed off (and she was cool with it) so that was OK.

But we also live on a very lightly traveled county road and nobody saw our lights.

So after 3 or 4 years I finally listened to my wife and canned the dog and pony show.

Now we hang one string of lights from the eaves and you can see them from a mile away. Takes a half hour to put up and another half hour to dismantle.

And I'm stuck with a few hundred dollars worth of lights and questioning why I ever went nuts with them in the first place.

3. It looks lovely!
Despite the inconvenience, I bet those children will be so thrilled and the adults too. It looks like they put a ton of work into it.

6. It really is cool.
I love to go stand in his yard and watch the looks on the kids' faces. He has animated displays in window boxes on every window. His garage is a Santa's workshop with all these animated elves. It's really really neat.

8. Exactly. Talk about people wasting their money and energy...
There should be a carbon tax fee for those who put up such large displays.

10. You can't make everyone happy, if they want to do this, it is pretty and fun
Reminds me of big department stores that do/did big displays in their windows. Seems good that they are trying to deal with the traffic thing, hopefully going on the news about that will help.

couldn't he make some money renting out some place and doing this for the holidays. charge a small fee to go through and look at it.
