David Cameron was warned last night by America that damaging secrets of the ‘special relationship’ are about to be laid bare.

The U.S. ambassador to London made an unprecedented personal visit to Downing Street to warn that whistleblower website WikiLeaks is about to publish secret assessments of what Washington really thinks of Britain.

The website is on the verge of revealing almost 3million documents, including thousands of sensitive diplomatic cables sent to Washington from the American embassy in London.

The bombshell leak is thought to include U.S. assessments of Gordon Brown’s personality and his prospects of winning the General Election, and secret discussions on the return of the Lockerbie bomber to Libya.

The Daily Mail is very right-wing and sensationalist. This article is accurate on the main points, but puts some rather excessive emphasis on some issues that preoccupy them (e.g. Gordon Brown, whom they hate). The Independent is a much better source.

9. i am neutral on the charges, but if they are false he should not have had any trouble returning

to stand trial in Sweden since their justice system is very fair and if there is nothing to them that would quickly be discovered.

STOCKHOLM (AFP) – Sweden's criminal police has issued an international arrest warrant for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, wanted on suspicion of rape and sexual molestation, police said Saturday.

"Late last night we gathered all the information and sent it out in the different systems," namely the Swedish system, Schengen countries system SIS and Interpol, Tommy Kangasvieri of the Swedish National Criminal Police told AFP.

"The prosecutor had already decided to issue an international arrest warrant, we made sure that all the police forces in the world would see it," Kangasvieri explained.

Interpol, based in Lyon in eastern France, later said it had received an arrest warrant for the extradition of Assange.

The ruling means that an international arrest warrant for Assange is valid, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said today. The court made an “adjustment” to the warrant that the crime is regarded as “less serious,” the court said.

Bjoern Hurtig, Assange’s lawyer, said he would appeal the case to the supreme court. “We are disappointed, but are hopeful about an appeal after the court changed the wording,” Hurtig said.

Sweden’s criminal police had issued an international warrant for Assange, Interpol said on Nov. 20. He had been under investigation on rape charges in Sweden since August.

13. I read elsewhere that Assange may be CIA or something like that.

The site I saw it on is not allowed on DU so I can't post it. But I'm having a hard time jumping on this particular bandwagon even though I know *, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Condiliar, Blair and many others belong in the Hague.

Guess I'll have to see what happens as I'd love to see the criminals responsible for the Genocidal bogus wars in the Hague where they belong! :grr:
