3. Awesome but aren't they endangered? aren't they suppose to live in some sort

of protected area? I'm wondering if the Eagle is lost. But if you can take a picture of it and please post it than maybe tell somebody involve in wildlife preserve just in case he got loose.

largest population of nesting bald eagles in the lower 48.

On June 28, 2007 the Interior Department took the American bald eagle off the Endangered Species List. They are still protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. The Bald Eagle Protection Act prohibits the take, transport, sale, barter, trade, import and export, and possession of eagles, making it illegal for anyone to collect eagles and eagle parts, nests, or eggs without a permit

21. eagles live where they live

They are protected in that you are not allowed to hunt them or even possess a bald eagle feather.

We have a fair number of bald eagles where I live (by Maine coast). I was sitting at my peecee in front of the attic window one day a few years ago, and one flew low over the addition rooftop. So low, I could see the details of each feather! :wow:

I used to have an owl that hung out in the small woods just behind my house. I think he lived there...I could here him very close at niht. One night when we were building my barn, we looked up and there he was sitting on the nearest fencepost...about 20 feet away. I ran up to the house, got my camera and got fabulous pix. I got so close in the final pix, he was literally within arms reach. Never budged.

Anyway, I hadn't seen him (or her) for some years, although I've heard him in the distance. I think my dog scared him off. And then today I was sitting in bed studying, and suddenly my dog started woofing. I looked up...and there was the owl *watching* us from the nearest tree. :D It was good to see my old friend.

When I was a kid I got to hold onto a tamed one. Amazing and beautiful creatures.

Here in Fargo we have a mated pair of Peregrine Falcons that live atop an office tower in downtown.

During the 2008 election, a bald eagle landed in my front yard. I was talking to one of the volunteers at the time, and got so excited, he did not understand what I was talking about. They are such cool birds.

They're so common up here that we don't think about them much but I'm glad to hear they're turning up down there in the Lower 48 again. I guess they've had kind of a hard time of it down there.

My grandmother used to have those DDT dispensers with the plungers you would push in and out to squirt the stuff out. She lived on a farm in Ohio and would use the DDT to get rid of the flies. So many things we did to harm the earth, and no one had a clue.

20. We have some that live here year round down near the pond.

I'd say the pond is about a thousand feet from where I live, but I can still see the eagles flying overhead sometimes. It always amazes me. People say, "Oh, it's red tailed hawks." but I can see a difference. The bald eagle has the white head and looks darker. We have both eagles and hawks, plus some kind of falcon I have yet to identify. All I know is it is small and flies too fast to get a good look with the binoculars. I can't keep him in the view long enough to identify him. I want to though. What I wouldn't give for a high powered camera that can film stills and action shots.

We've never had eagles close enough to get a decent picture though. All of that thousand or so feet between my place and the pond is purge jungle...and when I say jungle, I mean vines, huge old trees, thickets, every animal imaginable and things that howl and grunt at night, and a forest canopy that is breathtaking...if you can find a small spot that is passable and work your way back in there to look some. I love it!

It's hard to explain, but I, and most of my neighbors, all have backyards that we only use part of. The rest we leave wild. All of those connected wild areas form a dense jungle-like forested area. It can even be seen from the aerial maps on Bing and Google Maps. It's beautiful! I'm glad the neighbors all do it this way. That, actually, was one of the selling points when I decided this place would be my home. Everyone in my family kept telling me the place was a dump, and yes, the house itself has needed A LOT of work, but I saw that animals, wildlife, and trees seemed to be regarded as something to live WITH instead of destroy for perfectly manicured lawns. That was it. I'm finally home. After all these years of searching, I've finally found a neighborhood and yard that is perfect.

Congratulations on having a bald eagle come that close. That would be so exciting to me. Please do post pictures if you can get some. :wow:

24. I live by the river here in La Crosse, WI and in spring bald eagles are as common as sparrows.

I've walked a block from my house and have seen more than a dozen on and around the ice at the same time, also worrying a bunch of gulls that are huddled together on the ice.
