for those who missed it, Pelosi recently pointed out something about John Boehner...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4621869Incoming Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said incoming Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is "known to cry."
"You know what? He is known to cry. He cries sometimes when we’re having a debate on bills. If I cry, it’s about the personal loss of a friend or something like that. But when it comes to politics — no, I don’t cry. I would never think of crying about any loss of an office, because that’s always a possibility, and if you’re professional, then you deal with it professionally," Pelosi (D-Calif.) told the New York Times magazine.
She noted: "I have deep emotions about the American people. If I were to cry for anything, I would cry for them and the policies that they’re about to face."
Now a letter-writer in Virginia took exception.
http://www2.starexponent.com/news/2010/nov/28/how-i-see-it-heartfelt-tears-john-boehner-ar-680759/The tears that incoming House Speaker John Boehner shed on election night were tears that grew from a great concern for our nation. The commitment that Boehner made that night, to not celebrate until we see change, was admirable. Current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should understand that Boehner’s tears were a result of a heart for the people and a definite sign of strength not of weakness.
How many people have shed tears when they were out of work or when they feared what the new health care laws would do for their family? It was courageous for Boehner to identify with the people.
Every leader should hurt with the people he is serving. Boehner showed a warm heart and the temperature of many hurting Americans.
Boehner exhibited an understanding that elected officials are servants of “We the People” and the Constitution. Servants are to submit to their masters. Many in Washington have forgotten this principle. This has resulted in arrogance that many in the Democratic Party have expressed by turning a deaf ear to the cries of many Americans.
Every leader in the Legislative, Judicial and Executive branches of our government should enter the New Year with a humble heart, such as Boehner had. “Pride goeth before a fall” is a proverb that describes what happened to our leaders in the Executive Branch and the Democrats in Congress, for the past two years. The “fall” has been great! In contrast, Boehner showed a contrite heart — void of any arrogance.
We must plead for forgiveness from our Divine Providence for our leaders who haven’t shared Boehner’s tears in their hearts. We must pray that many more leaders will find that they are truly strong when they, like Boehner, can courageously shed the tears of those who are hurting.
