Pakistan forcing Taliban militants to keep fighting, Karzai says in leaked cable

Afghan President Hamid Karzai told a US envoy this year that the Pakistani government is forcing Taliban fighters to keep fighting coalition forces, according to a State Department cable released by WikiLeaks.

If true, the allegation would add evidence to claims Pakistan is intentionally prolonging the war effort to ensure that any future peace settlement results in an Afghan "satellite state" of Pakistan.

8. Yeah, good point, but I'm inclined to believe this. Musharraf totally
played us for the money we were giving him, I don't know who the current head honcho is but I'm guessing he/she is still doing it.

13. I took it to mean they kept engaging them - and maybe not letting
them get back into Afghanistan? I don't believe/trust Karzai and I don't believe/trust Pakistan so I really don't know what to think. Not that that keeps me from voicing an opinion!

WikiLeaks: US referred to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as 'Hitler'
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is referred to as "Hitler" while President Nicolas Sarkozy of France is called a "naked emperor" in US documents released by Wikilieaks on Sunday.

Pages from the German newspaper Der Spiegel were leaked early, before a mass publication of thousands of secret cables by the whiste-blowing website.

The documents also say that North Korean leader Kim Jong -il suffers from epilepsy, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddhafi's full-time nurse is a "hot blond".

The German Chancellor is referred to as Angela "Teflon" Merkel and Afghan President Hamid Karzai is "driven by paranoia", the documents claim.

5. Pakistan would rather have the Taliban fighting for control of Afghanistan than for Pakistan.
A good number of Muslims in Pakistan are Sufi, non-fundamentalists. There would be a religious civil war if the Taliban were to control the government.

20. One problem: the linked cable is of an Ahmed Karzai interview, not Hamid.
You know, Hamid's drug-running brother? Big difference.

However, this sort of stuff was already suspected as well.
