CNN and the official approach to the Wiki-Leaks story...
Watch them. Watch what they say and how they saw it. Who do they call on for "expert commentary", and what's his history?
The release has become the story, not the content of the documents. "Please assess, for us, the extent of the damage this release has caused."

The media is the message folks.

4. The "damage" has become the story, just as State and Dod
want it to be. I've already seen posts excoriating Wikileaks for putting countless people at risk.

7. Yes, even though ...
the people exposed are responsible for far greater damage.

5. Will these leaks expose US military protection of global corporate interests?

6. And they are so transparent. There will be no consequences
for these crimes. I'm sure CNN had the memos delivered earlier in the week and as Colbert said, like good stenographers, are simply reading the government-issued talking points. We really will have to rely on outside intervention, like war crimes trials, to get this country on the right road to democracy, it seems. We simply cannot take care of our own criminals, but they have abused the citizens of other nations, who have a vested interested in seeing them brought to justice.

They lied and lied and people died and were tortured and maimed and their resources stolen, their countries destroyed, our treasury raided to enrich the mercenary contractors, and nothing is being done about it. The media has been complicit from the beginning. Which is why I don't use it anymore for real news, only to watch in awe sometimes as they deliver the propaganda and with a straight face, call it news.

9. Both David Letterman and Keith Olbermann earned my lasting respect
when they read their government faxes of talking points on camera. :)

11. Yep. They sent Dave talking points to -- get this -
deal with a little boy who fell asleep on camera behind a speech of Junior's. Dave had a great time flapping the fax around and reading the stuff the White House sent him.

Keith's fax, iirc, was about the interview he was about to do with Joe Wilson. He also showed it on camera.

Fan for life. :)

12. Wow, I don't know how I missed that. Already a Keith fan,
Letterman just gained real respect from me. Sounds like we either have some real idiots in our government or they thought they could intimidate everyone? :-)
