Canadian actor Leslie Nielsen, who most famously achieved global success in comedy movies such as "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," has died aged 84, Manitoba radio station CJOB reported Sunday.

His death was first reported in unconfirmed messages on Twitter late Sunday that suggested the actor had died in the hospital after suffering from pneumonia.

His nephew Doug Nielson, told CJOB that Leslie had been in the hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 12 days and that with family and friends by his side at 5:30pm Sunday "he just fell asleep and passed away."

Awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he was also made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2002 despite also being a naturalized US citizen

11. Oh, no
Sad to hear that.

He was a Canadian performer for a while before he left for America. I just listened to a CBC documentary he did as a young man in New York trying to become a star.

It's strange how he only became a real star in his later years for being a comedian. He was mostly a serious actor up until he starred in Airplane!.

RIP, Leslie.

31. "Oh, and one more thing... I faked every orgasm I ever had with you"
Mayor: Now Drebin, I don't want any trouble like you had on the South Side last year, that's my policy.

Frank: Well, when I see five weirdos, dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the bastards, that's *my* policy!

Mayor: That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of 'Julius Caesar,' you moron! You killed five actors! Good ones!

33. He'll be greatly missed.

"Leslie Nielsen was raised in Tulita (formerly Fort Norman), Northwest Territories. His father was a mountie and a strict disciplinarian. His mother was Welsh. Leslie studied at the Academy of Radio Arts in Toronto before moving on to New York's Neighborhood Playhouse. His acting career started at a much earlier age when he was forced to lie to his father in order to avoid severe punishment. Leslie has starred in over fifty movies and many more TV films. One of his two brothers became the deputy prime minister of Canada."

"Men With Brooms", his "Due South" episodes .... he was amazingly entertaining. "Airplane" and "Naked Gun" ......... classics.

41. Yes, It Is
I could quote from his movies all day long. Just so many funny lines. In fact, when I first saw this article, I said, "Leslie Nielsen is dead? Surely you can't be serious!" I haven't checked the entire thread, but "surely" someone already used this line, didn't they?

40. NY Times on his bio
In keeping with his adopted comic persona, when Mr. Nielsen in 1993 published an autobiography, “Naked Truth,” it was one that cheerfully, blatantly fabricated events in his life.
