Why some may be calling for the attack of Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian anti-drug official warned the US and western countries to take rigid efforts to combat drug production and trafficking in Afghanistan, saying that the country will witness a remarkable increase in the production of illicit drugs next year due to the current surge in the price of narcotics.

...While Afghanistan produced only 185 tons of opium per year under the Taliban, according to the UN statistics, since the US-led invasion, drug production has surged to 3,400 tons annually. In 2007, the opium trade reached an estimated all-time production high of 8,200 tons....

Iran lies on a major drug route between Afghanistan and Europe, as well as the Persian Gulf states. Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Iranian police have lost more than 3500 of their personnel in the country's combat against narcotics....

During the past Iranian year (ended on March 20,) Iran seized more than 1,000 tons of opium smuggled from Afghanistan, the largest producer of opium poppy in the world....

Especially after things like the cia torture plane that crashed with all that cocaine. There is dirty dirty dirty business going on. No wonder the governments are so afraid of wikileaks.

2. Most Neo-Cons Have No Clue Why They Want To Attack
...other than revenge for 1979. The reality is our military is too stretched to dare to tangle with Iran at this point. While some just see Iran as another small country on the map, its military wouldn't be the roll over and, as we saw in Iraq, attempting to bomb a country into submission won't work. All the sabre rattling is mostly bullshit to play to the right wing base.

3. It's about the size of Iraq and Afghanistan combined.
Roughly equal to the US midwest. I think you're right - in our nationalistic fervor these days, no one can even comprehend the U.S. isn't the biggest country ever in the history of all time.

7. American "Exceptionalism"
Many in this country have grown up with a distorted view of the world...filtered through a media lens. Every event in the world is always presented as "how it affects us" with little context to the culture and histories of the parties involved. There's this concept that this country is superior to all (listen to Grifterella and other right wing claptraps for a steady diet) that this country can affect and project itself whenever or whereever it can. If a country doesn't look at us the right way, wave the sabres and they "better" fall in line. It's a folly concept that unfortunately works its way into foreign and defense policy that has cost this country dearly.

Inversely, as witness in those who are jumping all over the Wikileaks cables, some are looking for whatever they can that makes this country look in the worse way. It'd be nice if, for once, Americans got off their high horses and realized the world doesn't revolve around the U.S.

Cheers...
