While the waiver will give some reservists up to another year in the Selected Marine Corps Reserve, it only delays the inevitable. Marines whose service is extended will still be transferred to the IRR immediately after their deployment, on the same day their unit deactivates. Additionally, reservists who stay in under the new MARADMIN are ineligible for promotion while they remain in the SMCR.
