A teabagger exposed and unashamed
On a day when we are supposed to be thankful for one another, I had the privilege of being in the company of a relative who identifies with tea party/libertarian ideals. After a nice dinner, a discussion began about fracking/gas companies. Somehow this discussion quickly escalated into a constitutional debate about what the government is within their powers to do. Not to worry, the relative had his constitution in his back pocket waiting and ready for battle. I had mine in my head which really infuriated him and the argument intensified to the point of exposure. He stated loudly and clearly that any social program enforced via the government steps on his right to give a shit. So there it is folks, on Thanksgiving day no less.....we shouldn't take care of one another because it infringes on his right to give a shit about you! Pure, raw selfishness was exposed and I saw not one speck of shame...so sad.

14. It's true. Everybody who's written about a Tea Party relative...
probably has, by coincidence, a Tea Party relative.

17. I would imagine some of my relatives are teabaggers.
One in particular comes to mind. I'm not sure though, because I haven't seen him or in fact any of the other usual suspects in years. I certainly wouldn't have him around for Thanksgiving, if only because his fundamentalist exceptionalism would piss me off to be around. When you have 160.000 people on a board, it's likely that some of them will have teabags hanging from the family tree, and that they will post about their encounters. The rest of us, more fortunate in our associations with the dark side of the family, don't generally rush out to post that we didn't have any nasty encounters.

2. Our taxes go
for things we don't like or don't give a shit about all the time. I don't like discressionary wars. I still have to pay for them.

That's part of what being in a Democratic Republic looks like. We elect people to make decisions for us. Good luck with finding someone who makes every decision completely in line with yours.

He doesn't have to give a shit. But he still has to pay for it.

4. Selfishness is a virtue to these extremists.
They are actually proud of themselves for being that way. Glad the food was nice anyway. Some folks didn't have any Thanksgiving dinner and it's going to get worse, with things like cutting off unemployment compensation - thanks to assholes just like him.

9. I didn't have to...
he stormed out while calling me and my spouse all kinds of nasty names and told us that he wasn't going to argue with us because he was right and we were wrong! Yeah it wasn't pretty.

10. Yeah, well on Thanksgiving, I took all my fascist/Rethug relatives on a wild ride.
One has suffered losses, and was asking rhetorical questions about why things are the way they are. I answered every question, without labeling anything. They all agreed with the entire ball of wax. The entire zeitgeist. And agreed that the paths we frequent, are the cause. Most of those paths, are rethug. When you get to the philosophy of things, those rethugs are incapable of connecting the dots. It is quite easy to steer them into blind alleys that they cannot escape. I even steered them into socialism being the only savior of capitalism. And how the rich prop up free market being the only choice, to fleece all the rest of us at regular intervals.

12. hahaha
not yet. They got letters in the mail from a gas company asking for the right to come on their properties to prospect. If they give them the right, they sign it away for a lifetime, even if they sell the property. That some shit huh? Surprisingly, most of them have not signed.

20. I would wait until he's having cancer or a major downer deal in his
life and feed him the "you are stepping on my right to a worry free day, fuck off" line.

So many of these assholes haven't a clue, they think the insurance companies and the hospitals are always going to be there for them
no matter what it costs. They think they'll always have jobs because it's only the lazy, shiftless types that lose theirs.

The minute their life goes into the downward spiral, they got the contact book out and the tears flowing for the "I need speech".

fuck em.

23. That's because in the Republican/Teabagger playbook, everything the government does
amounts to "welfare" or a handout.

The Republican Party and Corporate America has convinced many Americans--teabaggers and not--that government is no good. This has been a 30+ year experiment in American politics. Convince the people that government is bad, then act on it.

Obama's pledge to freeze federal employees' salaries will resonate with many Americans who believe that federal employees don't deserve anything because "government is bad."

For them, the pure raw selfishness is there, but there is something deeper. Something much more sinister.
