God won’t allow global warming, congressman seeking to head Energy Committee says

OMIGAWD!!! I heard this on the radio this AM!! :scared: :wow: :wow: :puke:
The article is from 11/11..but I did not hear about it until this morning!!!

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/god-global-warming-congressman-energy/

Global warming can't destroy humanity because flood won't kill mankind, GOP congressman says
Representative John Shimkus (R-IL), who said he opposed cap and trade legislation because God would not allow the Earth to be destroyed by global warming, is seeking the chairmanship of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

<snip>

"I do believe in the Bible as the final word of God," Shimkus told Politico Wednesday. "And I do believe that God said the Earth would not be destroyed by a flood."

During a congressional hearing in March of 2009 on a proposed cap and trade bill, Shimkus quoted Genesis, saying, "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though all inclinations of his heart are evil from childhood and never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done."

"I believe that's the infallible word of God, and that's the way it's going to be for his creation," he added. "The Earth will end only when God declares it's time to be over. Man will not destroy this Earth. This Earth will not be destroyed by a Flood. I do believe that God's word is infallible, unchanging, perfect."

<snip>

:facepalm: hardly begins to describe my reaction....
While the article says he will probably not get the chairmanship...I find it impossible to rely on the rationality of the repukes.

EDIT: one of the others vying for the chairmanship of that committee is Representative Joe "BP apologist" Barton (Idiot-TX)

3. That's the most shocking, appalling, and depressing thing I've read from a politician
in a long time.

In a sane country, he would have zero chance of being reelected.

7. Some problems with this man's thinking
"Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though all inclinations of his heart are evil from childhood and never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done."

He believes in a god that creates evil.
His god never said he would not destroy man, just that he would not kill everything.

This man has drank the evil kool-aide and lost his mind

10. What f--king flood? A water level rise is not a world wide flood. These
rw idiots are so stupid they do not even know their own Bible. One of the lessons of the Bible is that there are consequences to actions - so why is it that there are no consequences to the actions of greed? When they say these stupid things I would just once like to see a preacher tell them they need to reread the damn Bible.

Barton is the moran that apologized to BP after the oil spill. An easy mistake, as they are both idiots.

17. Even if I did pretend to believe in god, what flood is that?
Global warming may inundate many coastal areas, but that's no flood - it is a very slow rise. What global warming is, is drought, famine, disease, wildfires, shorter but wetter winters, extreme fluctuations in climate - NOBODY is saying we're going to turn into Waterworld.

So, you fucking moron, god's promise will be kept - he's got a million other ways of destroying humanity with global warming other than by flooding.
