I am telling you that Ed Schultz is a closet righty. I cannot reconcile his constant
noise against the Obama administration. Many times he is putting words and ideas into the psyche of his callers. He tries to come across as concerned but the tone of his rants are anti democratic. Just flame me. It is how I feel. I am as sick and tired of him as he claims to be sick and tired of the President.

1. I did not trust in his conversion years ago. I do now
He's a populist. But he also retains influence based on his N. Dakota roots. But mostly, he can be a bit clueless and a blowheart.

I often do not agree with Ed, but I no longer believe him to be a "closet righty."

7. I'm tired of people who challenge the president's actions
being called "closeted republicans."

Ed is speaking the truth--if you choose to wake up from the hero-worship and see that this administration has made numerous, anti-FDR democratic choices it will be better for you.

8. Key words: Blue collar
Ed is for the worker. He's pro union, anti-NAFTA. Remember how there was a lot of chatter about NAFTA during the primary, and there was a rumor (mostly in the Canadian press) that Obama had reassured the Canadian government nothing would change with regard to NAFTA if he were elected? Well, that certainly proved to be true and excuse people like Ed Schultz (and me) for being pissed about that.

4. I thought I heard he was a Republican before
If I remember correctly he felt he could make more money as a "Liberal" than he could as a Republican like Rush (he does sound like him anyway).

I found this on wikipedia:

Schultz's News and Views radio show was very similar to his WDAY Viewpoint program and quickly grew into a regional broadcast dominating the North Dakota airwaves, with additional listeners in South Dakota, western Minnesota, Montana, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Schultz's political views leaned towards the right during the early years, and Schultz told the Los Angeles Times that he "lined up with the Republicans because they were anti-tax, and I wanted to make a lot of money...." Schultz pondered a run as a Republican for the U.S. House of Representatives against Democratic Rep. Earl Pomeroy in 1994, but decided against it after visiting with state Republican leaders

5. No flame here......
You are wrong, IMO. I think Ed is a progressive that doesn't like Obama just like so many here. FOr some reason, I think people thought they were electing a progressive when in reality, Obama is more of a conservative democrat. But, that's just my opinion.
Everyone has one. I am more than satisfied with Obama and plan to give him another four years if he so desires.

6. You are confusing ...
... being a progressive with being an Obama partisan -- unfortunately, they are not necessarily the same things.

Schultz is a grassroots-type progressive, he isn't a down-the-line, 'anything goes' Obama supporter.

11. True
Schultz is willing to call out the President when he doesn't agree with what the President does or does not do. When's the last time you saw Hannity, O'Reilly, or Oxyman doing the same with Bush and the GOP?

14. Ed Schultz vs Barack Obama?
Edited on Mon Nov-29-10 01:44 PM by WizardLeft62
Ed Schultz might be a real righty posing a Democrat for radio's sake. I mean he might have carved out a niche because there are so many right-wing talkers.

That being said, Obama does cave into the Republicans way too much. I believe Obama does not govern from the left but from the center-right. No offense, but, Obama's "bipartisanship" is a little too much for me.

So, even if Big Ed is a poser, his analysis of Obama caving to the GOP is still quite accurate.

17. I listened to Eddie locally way before he went National...
I think he's very pro-union and pro-blue collar Democrat.

I listened to him for 10 years on local radio when he as a "righty", and he was always a very moderate righty. Populist would be a good description.

It was around 2000 that you could hear him becoming more and more centrist. His right wing regular callers would get upset with him and soon quit calling.

This was all before the National show started (2003/2004 I think).

If it was all "part of a plan", then it was something that occurred 3-4 years before he started Nationally.

It's easy to demonize when you ain't doing shit but talking.

Some would call that's courageous (as it may have been back in the bush years),
but these days, I simply call it for what it truly is; non constructive nothing
that indirectly helps the other side, and again....nothing more.

30. Takes one to know one. Obama is too far right for Schultz as
someone pointed out above. Schultz, like me, is an old-time Democrat. We still believe in the things that Kennedy and FDR believed in -- like Social Security, public education, free and robust labor unions, fair wages, fair trade -- all those values that used to be mainstream American but are now considered to be on the left.

Obama is the rightie here, not Schultz.

31. Sorry, mfcorey1 . . .
Sorry, mfcorey1, but you have Ed all wrong. He's the best, most spot-on, and articulate left winger in all of the media. It's good that he gives our President some excellent advice.
Our country would be a much better place if Ed had as many listeners/viewers as did Limbaugh/FOX. mfcorey1's comment exemplifies one of the problems with the progressive movement: We don't close ranks and stay on the same page together, as do the right wingers who are being more successful for that reason.
