The 99'ers are being stripped of their unemployment over the next few weeks due to refusal to extend benefits. There is an excellent post from ThomCat in the thread I'm referencing re: there's certain to be an increase in suicides as a result. After all, how many of those still looking for work - and now without even a subsistence-level income - will decide it's the easiest way out?

If you have any extra money, please make a donation to your local food bank. Today. It's not going to solve everything, but if each of us did a little, it would surely help food banks that are already stretched to the breaking point.

The food bank here says they can feed a family for sixty-nine cents a day.

The holidays are hard enough for a lot of people. Let's face it, it's not everything they need, but it's a start.

4. Actually, a lot more are losing benefits

over and above the 99ers. This particular refusal to extend goes all the way down to the first tier 26 weeks. Nothing past that has been approved.

I didn't even realize it goes to the first 26 weeks as well.

Thank you so much to everyone who recommended this thread, and those who responded. We are not rich, but wow, I can't even imagine how desperate the situation is for those who are losing their unemployment insurance right now.
