Another Georgia Democrat has joined the GOP. State Sen. Tim Golden, of Valdosta, made the announcement on Monday. He is the sixth Democratic member of the General Assembly to switch his allegiance to the Republican Party following strong GOP gains on election day.

The other five are in the House. Golden's switch will give Republicans a 36-20 advantage in the Senate.

Golden was re-elected to an 11th term representing portions of Lowndes, Brooks, Cook and Thomas counties.

Republicans welcomed Golden, calling him a fiscally conservative, pro-business lawmaker.

6. Hey there are plenty of bigoted places in the north

We are all not nuts down here. We just can't keep them locked up like we need to. Since raygun turned them all out and there is little $ for psych care anymore they just run loose and many go to jail for minor things instead of getting care they get punished..or elected to office. We moved to where we are because is a dem leaning fairly progressive county in NC.
Maybe we should round them all up and turn them loose in Ga, Al, and SC, but that would make getting to the redneck riviera a real pain. I will not even drive through AL or MS. I used to live in Al and my partner has hair raising story about being pulled over in the middle of the night by cops in MS. I once walked from Meridian MS to Mont AL (few folks would pick up a hitchhiker with longer than military cut hair ).

10. Oh it's here but it's VERY VERY SMALL! I live in north Ga.

and I've complained constantly that there are so many slots on our ballot that have ONLY a Pub running! HOWEVER, have to say that there are very vey few
Dems n this state too. I met a few when Dean was running, and after a few months of meetups, we actually had about 200 people who would come, but they were from a very wide area; some drove an hour to get the the meetup. There are only 2 areas of Ga. that have quite a few Dems and that's Atlanta & Athens.

When there is a vacancy in Georgia do they have a caucus to fill the vacancy? And would it be based on his party affiliation at the time of the election or his current party affiliation?
