1. Yes indeed
My chihuahua was very confused in the dog park this morning - grass was icy. We didn't stay long.

2. Check with right wing radio tomorrow
"Where's yer global warmin' now, libruls? HAW, HAW, HAW!"

Just tell them it moved to Chile, or wherever other weather disasters are occurring.

Good luck, and stay warm.

6. it is painful that they fail to understand that there are extremes that come from the global climate
change that is going on. The weather is really a mess in certain parts, and quite deadly. :(

5. Global Warming will bring extremes -- we now have 2 hot days for ever 1 cold day ....
by 2050, some say we could have 21 hot days for every 1 cold day --

What might 2025 bring?

7. I dont know about records - I was a kid in the 60's when it snowed in early December
so, I don't think it's too unusual... SoCal has always had some weird and unexpected weather
from time to time....

(And no - I'm not one of those global climate change doubters - there just needs to be some perspective)

I also remember frost on my lawn (and I'm in coastal LA County) a few years ago that looked almost like snow.

10. One of the high points of radio listening in Southern CA...
back in the late 30s and the 40s was the nightly fruit-frost warning that rambled through the various orchard areas(LA and surrounding area). Last town mentioned, that was made into a joke by many comedians, was the hamlet(grapes)of Cucamonga.

Overnight temps frequently dropped into the low 20s and even teens once in a while. That was the radio signal that the farmers awaited nightly to see if they had to fire up their smudge pots to keep the temps up a bit. That was the original smog in the basin.

Temps were frequently as low as 30 in Hollywood/Los Angeles.

Mark this as trivia from the distant past.

21. A couple of suggestions for your garden.
I have have square foot gardens with cages so I just throw blankets over them and the veggies stay above freezing. Assuming you don't have this set up and your garden isn't huge, if you have a propane B-B-Q, you can wheel it out to your garden, turn it on low when the temp. is around 34 degrees and just keep it on until the sun comes out. You're going to think I'm nuts but I've also used tea candles placed next to every 2-3 plants. You have to go out every hour or so to replace them but it works and the tea candles are cheap.

16. Wait until the first big snowstorm hits the East Coast
The deniers will all be out chortling but you never hear from them when there's a heat wave.

Read this article on Think Progress. http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2010/11/27/afp-pollution-plan/

These people are nuts. They want to kill all 'green jobs', an industry that is expected to generate $2.3 trillion in business annually by 2020. China is already outspending. John Shimkus of Illinois is one of the leading candidates to chair the Committee on Energy and Commerce. He's been quote more than once saying that there is nothing to worry about because God promised he wouldn't destroy the earth after Noah's flood. His main opponent is Joe Barton who apologized to BP and wanted the taxpayers to pay for the clean up.

Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 09:29 AM by Monique1
The temps are in the low 30's

I am so glad my dog is litter box trained - she does not like the cold. Actually, she went out on the patio yesterday and turned around came right back in the apartment. She curled up in a ball after returning in.

19. Meanwhile, here in the Midwest, we've been having a warm and dry fall
Too warm, too dry. If we don't get some more cold soon, apple trees won't be producing well next year.

20. Been pretty wierd up here in the SJ Valley, too.
Just like you guys, we had freakishly hot weather at the beginning of November, also breaking records. Three days later the temp. dropped like 30 degrees. We're having frosts here but they aren't serious (around 30 degrees) so, so far, they aren't threatening the citrus crop. The good news is that we're getting plenty of rain early so hopefully we'll get an above-average snowpack for the 2010/2011 season. In a weird kind of way, I think global warming is actually HELPING the Central San Joaquin Valley. Go figure.

22. Southern California is huge! Some of it freezes all the time..
I've seen snow in Hollywood, Burbank, and freezes in Newport Beach, but depending on where you are, a freeze might be news, or just another day. Anyone who knows a bit about the history of citrus growing in SoCal will be aware that freezing weather is a factor to be considered and always has been.
There is a famous photo of Charlie Chaplin Studios in Hollywood covered in snow in the 20's or 30's. Beautiful, really.
