Snuggling together on my porch's door matt. I've tried to open the door for them to let them in from out of the cold, but, I think they're some of the feral kitties we have in the neighborhood. They won't come near if the door is opened so I left them some water and turkey leftovers.

1. Maybe you could put a cardboard box out there for them . . . ?
Mine are inside cats, but they love those cardboard boxes and it might help them keep a little warmer.

7. Cats love cardboard boxes
if you can put an old towel in it, even better.
You can get some cheap cat food at the 7-11.
They'll also need water, get a bowl or paper cups.

3. We have a feral cat
and sometimes 2 or 3 who visit us. We have been worrying about them because it is getting so cold in the Bay area of California.
We bought them a little cat bed, but they seem to be frightened of it. Thanks for the idea - we will give cardboard boxes a try.

4. If you could create some sort of shelter, box, towels or blankets, that would be good,
Out of the wind, someplace safe. Water is good, too. I've been feeding feral cats here for quite awhile. There is a group that has set up a sheltered area, but I try to do my part. It rips my heart out, every single night that I go there. *sigh* ;(

6. Update
I found a cardboard box about the size of a microwave oven and set it out. I cut an old blanket in half and put one piece in the box and draped the other over the opening, leaving it open just enough for them to know its an opening.

Moments ago she came back. I watched for a while and saw her smell the box before she started eating the turkey. I left her alone and didn't see if she went inside the box afterward, but I am guessing since she came back she's probably inside it right now. I just don't want to disturb her anymore tonight checking.

Keep it up. As she gets more used to your scent, she might start being open to you being around. That's how we adopted our beloved Jelli.

17. A friend of mine took care of a mama and kitties for years on her porch.
a shelter, food and water. Eventually they came inside. It takes a long time. there is an organization for feral cats here in LA which can help you by getting them spayed/neutered for free, and health shots etc. They have a special kind of cage so you can trap them and get them to the vet without harm they will lend you. I don't remember the name but I'm sure googling would find it. maybe alleycats?

18. Yep, cardboard boxes
Hubby and I had a cat that came around about six winters ago. We put out a box and with a couple of towels in it. He was a little suspicious at first, but he got in after a few minutes. We found out later that this cat actually belonged to a neighbor - they had a cat door in their garage, and he must have taken us for cat people because he seemed to prefer our front porch to their garage! After several daily attempts to take him back to his garage - only to have him come right back - we actually asked the neighbors if we could have him. They were thrilled - they said they didn't have time for the cat. (WTF) He lived with us for the rest of his life - sadly, he died a couple of years ago.

19. How are the fleas in your neighborhood?
A flea infestation on a mother cat & kittens can be devastating so that's something to keep an eye on.
