Deficit battle threatens job-based health care
AP: Deficit battle threatens job-based health care

By The Associated Press
November 28th, 2010

Job-based health care benefits could wind up on the chopping block if President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans get serious about cutting the deficit.

Budget proposals from leaders in both parties have urged shrinking or eliminating tax breaks that help make employer health insurance the leading source of coverage in the nation and a middle-class mainstay.

The idea isn't to just raise revenue, economists say, but finally to turn Americans into frugal health care consumers by having them face the full costs of their medical decisions.

5. yep. it was/is entirely predictable.
The idea is to switch financial burden from businesses to the individuals.

Between individual mandates and fake deficit commission... and virtually certain massive cuts to public services including Medicare and Medicaid... it's pretty clear who is going to pay the price and make all "sacrifices". :nuke:

10. "The idea is to switch financial burden from businesses to the individuals."
Absolutely! It is also the precise reason for Obama's heart's desire-the excise tax on workers' benefits.

"Ownership society," anyone?

2. I think that's a good thing IF we can agree that it includes the insurance companies too.
There needs to be something that makes "America" America FOR EVERYONE, no matter what.

Comprehensive, coherent Health Care for everyone regardless of whether they are employed or not is a good place to start. http://www.pnhp.org/
