Cantor: GOP ready to vote down bill extending only middle-class tax cuts
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/131073-cantor-gop-ready-to-vote-down-bill-extending-only-middle-class-tax-cuts

Republicans are prepared to vote down a bill extending all but the top-end tax cuts, the second-ranking GOP leader in the House said Tuesday.

Incoming House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said that he was ready to instruct GOP members to vote down legislation Democrats plan to bring to the floor that would extend the expiring Bush-era tax cuts only for the middle class.

"Yes," Cantor said on Bloomberg Television when asked if he was prepared to tell Republican lawmakers to vote against such a measure.

Democrats in both the House and the Senate have signaled that they would bring up for a vote this week bills that would extend tax cuts for all households earning under $250,000 per year and all individuals under $200,000 per year. That limited extension had been the preference of President Obama and Democrats, while Republicans have insisted on extending all tax cuts, even for the wealthy, for two years or even permanently.

"One of two things is going to happen in January. Either taxes go up, or they stay the same," Cantor said on NBC's "Today" show, framing the tax debate, which is set to top a meeting of leaders of both parties at the White House on Tuesday morning.

3. "ready to instruct..."

You must obey, or else. I can't believe we have to deal with these idiots for at least the next two years.

4. Cancel all cuts. BFD!
This is just the fight they had planned for when the cuts were made. Most Americans don't think they ever got a cut to begin with so when they realize that there taxes are raising they will wake up and realize that they have been living in a dream world for ten years. Too sad.

5. If Obama is the poker player he is said to be....he best call this bluff.
2 votes - one for extending the middle-class taxcuts and one vote on extending the top 2%. Do it now.

Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 10:57 AM by Winterblues
He has already said outloud and in public that he is willing to compromise on extending the tax cuts for the wealthy. He is just not willing to make them "permanent" wink wink ...We all know how those non permanent things go...

21. They should have the vote on the upper 2% first...
then the lower 98% vote...but they can make a lot of hay if they have the votes a day apart...they can point to the 2% vote and say "see - this is who they protect, the only people in the country that can really do a lot to help with the deficit and they vote against it...and put the burden on the rest of us, who cannot afford it.."

:nuke:

Too bad the Dems will probably fold like a cheap tent and give the Rethuglicans everything they want. Maybe even some things the Rethuglicans haven't asked for. x(

7. Go ahead, make my day!
You gotta ask yourself, punk, this is unemployment for a lot of voters....a lot of people that are pissed off......do I blow them off to protect the rich, or do I appease them and extend the benefits? Well, punk, do ya feel lucky?

Call their bluff and make them vote it down. They will die an agonizing death at the polls.

9. Take their bluff. Expose them for what they are.
Obama should get on tv and say, "The Republicans are willing to sacrifice the middle class in favor of the rich!"

If Obama did this, it would go a long way in restoring the "Democratic Brand". Also, it is the RIGHT THING TO DO FOR THE COUNTRY!!!!

If he can't do this, he truly deserves the title of "wimp".

14. They can. And they won't lose in 2012. They frame the issue better.

"It's NOT tax cuts for the rich - it's all tax cuts."

"In early 2011, Democrats RAISED taxes for ALL Americans." - repeated 24/7 by all news outlets.

See how that works?

"Your pay check went down because the Democrat party raised taxes".

17. With the right frame, we'd win easily. They voted against the middle-class tax cuts and let them
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 10:58 AM by coti
expire.

We didn't raise taxes. They're the ones that voted against them and let them expire.

It's an easy frame because it's the truth.

12. Repeat after me. The Middle Class is not the Republican Constituency/.
The Republican Consituency is the Rich, and Upper Classes.

They are protecting their constituency. I am not defending
the GOP just stating a simple truth.
Either the Democrats protect the Middle Class or no one
does. Houston, we have a problem. Conservative Democrats
are Pro=Business Pro Upper Class. Therefore we have a
divided Party with serious divided interests.
