" Former Republican Congressman and current MSNBC host Joe Scarborough is out with a vicious new post encouraging Republicans to "man up" and take Sarah Palin down a peg. As if trying to get the ball rolling, he precedes this suggestion with a few choice volleys of his own.


"Republicans have a problem," Scarborough writes at Politico. "The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected."


Scarborough's main beef with Palin seems to be that, in his view, she just is not serious enough to be considered a viable GOP candidate for president in 2012, and despite the supposed general acceptance of this as fact, Republicans sit idly, afraid to speak out, while Palin basks in the pre-campaign limelight.


To make matters worse, Scarborough prods, Palin does all of this while demeaning the legacy of GOP standard-bearers that many hold dear, people such as former presidents Reagan, whom she casually downplayed as "an actor," as well as George H.W. and Barbara Bush, whom she deemed "blue bloods."


In a particularly caustic passage, Scarborough seeks to draw a comparison between the legacies of H.W. Bush and Palin.

1. She's not a candidate and I doubt seriously she will be.

First, she's in this game for the money not the power. If she wanted the power she would still be Governor of Alaska.

Second, some serious candidates handlers will get to her and explain to her that she can do what she's doing, remain famous, and continue to fill her pockets with money, or she can become a candidate and lose it all.

She's dumb as a rock (sorry rocks) but I think she knows where the money is and more importantly that the money stops once she gets her ass handed to her in a presidential bid.

2. Yeah, but I think she knows she could get a lot of money donated to her PAC

if she carries on pretending to be a possible candidate, and then, when she finally declines, holds out the support of her adoring fans as an incentive for the real candidates to fight over her, treat her and her family like royals, and throw money at them for the campaign while they jet around in style and cream off the money for their own benefit. At least until the end of the Republican primary, she'll be carrying out the money in wheelbarrows.

3. Correct.

She's playing the game and the real candidates are cheering her on for it. There will be no President Palin in our future because she will never even become a candidate.

Dems will sure twist their undies into knots over the non existent possibility for the next 18 months though feeding her more money and fame in the process.

4. You may be right but she has taken considerable donations

through her political action committee ' SarahPAC ' .Its one thing to quit mid term as Governor of Alaska and its another to back-step your supporters and tell them that running for the presidency in 2012 is NOT in her future. She has a very loyal following, more than any other republican candidate. She doesn't need to justify running for the Republican nomination to appease any old guard repuke. I believe all indicators are pointing in the direction of her running for president.

5. In her very tiny mind she may be seriously considering it, but

when it comes down to brass tacks she will be told not to run at her own peril. I think the choice will be hers to make, but it will be made clear to her she can not run and help them and stay rich, or run and lose everything. Even her small minded neurotic thinking will grasp that very basic concept.

6. They tried that same strong arm tactic back in 92' with Ross Perot.

It didn't work then and it won't work NOW with Palin.

9. Apples and Oranges.

Ross Perot already had money and was happy to spend it to throw wrenches into the works. He was not seeking fortune through his actions and didn't really care about the fame. The fact that we've not heard one bit from him since is proof enough of that for me. Ross Perot also entered as an independent therefore did not have either party to answer to.

Sarah Palin is on the road actively seeking fortune and fame wherever it can be found. She will say whatever nuttiness comes into her mind or gets written on her hand, whether it's true or not, in her quest for that fortune and fame. Sarah Palin is also clearly a Republican and has to answer to that party in the end as well.

So, amend that from an apples and oranges argument to an apples and roast beef argument.

Sarah Palin will not give up the fame and money. She proved that by walking away from a position of power to seek it out.

7. At least one person from either party has the balls to say it out loud

In a roundabout way Joe pretty much challenged her to respond back to his comments.

8. This pushback ' challenge ' coming from Joey The Scar has an ' orchestrated ' stench to it.
