Toyota to fix 650,000 Prius hybrids for heat risk

The Japanese automaker said it had not received any reports of accidents or injuries from problems with the pump, which circulates coolant for the hybrid system.

Major automakers, including Toyota, often conduct repair campaigns that are separate from safety recalls filed with U.S. regulators in cases where they determine that a defect does not present a safety risk.

Toyota said the design of the electric water pump let air bubbles enter the system, slowing coolant circulation and allowing the hybrid's components to heat up.

13. What's sad is that Prius owners who tout the reliability of the car have had

two major recalls this year that really can't be ignored. My friends at the Toyota dealership LOVE recalls though because they make a ton of money fixing the cars under warranty.

14. At this point, I wouldn't drive a Toyota if everything about it were free.

I'm talking free purchase price, someone else picks up all relevant taxes, free insurance, free fuel/power, AAA, etc. I just wouldn't feel safe in one of those things.
