GOP will starve Americans into conservatism.
Recently, it was determined that those falling into poverty were more likely to trend Republican. At least conservative.

What lesson would this teach the GOP? The worse America does, the better they will do. It fits right in with do anything to doom any Obama success. Especially if it will do some good economically.

This angle is not being used. I think it should.

1. There is no doubt that they want to use fear to win hearts and minds...
Fear of terrorism, fear of loss of income, fear or deprivation. And if that isn't enough they will create the actual conditions, as seen in their blocking of unemployment benefits.

2. When the left breaks its promise of positive change, ...
people will turn to the right to find it. Of course the change the right brings is entirely self-defeating to those who are desperate for change.

This is as predictable as gravity.

3. The Big Set-Up
I saw and commented on this during the waning years of the boooosh regime. Whomever was going to take over in the aftermath of the absolute pillage of our government would face major troubles and hassles. I haven't been disappoitned.

The GOTB got away from their culpability of the collapse of the economy and this administration has been tarred with it. The right wing corporate media spin machine relentlessly spun the criticism of this administration from the rushpublican point of view. No one dare discuss how the mess was created, it's Obama's and the Democrats...short-term memory applies.

The right wing noise machine has been highly effective over the past 30 years in taking complicated issues and making them bumper sticker slogans. They're repeated early and often and soon become "conventional wisdom"...Democrats have no similar mechanism and fall into agreeing with the false premises and equivelencies that perpetuate the right wing talking points. The result is Democrats look weak and those voting by emotion not reason fall into the GOTB trap of voting against their own best interests.

Tis a sad time for the American condition...

5. GOP uses propaganda: govt is corrupt, inefficient, steals your money and takes your freedom
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 12:52 PM by andym
Using these 4 points they have dominated politics since Reagan with the exception of the last two years.

These 4 talking points seem to play better with the American public, even the unemployed, than increased equality of opportunity (GOP says "loss of freedom), more fairness (GOP:""loss of freedom"), helping the poor (GOP:"individual responsibility means they deserve their fate") or limiting corporate power (GOP:"loss of freedom").

Fear is their backup strategy.

How can we get true progressive programs at the federal level like single-payer with this level of political discourse from the opposition?

6. Actually, we should focus first on what this teaches Obama, and his reaction to it.
What conclusions can we draw from his insistence on RW policy despite the destruction it is causing our country and party?

9. I'm not sure presidents are allowed an agenda. Their own, anyway.

10. I'm not sure I follow what you are saying. Are you stating that presidents
are unable to effect policy?

11. Presidents, are only allowed what their real masters tell them.
Or, they are liable to end up impeached, disgraced, or ???
