We’re hurting
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 12:51 PM by Cyrano
The truth will set you free.

Prayer will set you free.

Democracy will set you free.

A great leader will set you free.

The Tooth Fairy will set you free.

Somehow, none of this seems to have worked out for us. We seem to have skipped truth, justice and the American way, and entered a world in which we continually get screwed.

Perhaps evolution will someday set us free. Who knows?

What I do know is that I am becoming more cynical, bitter and angry with each passing day. The Republicans now control the House and can block anything and everything. So how is this any different from when the Dems “controlled” the House and Senate?

We’re hurting out here, Mr. President. We’re hurting out here, Democratic Party. Can you hear us? Do you want to hear us? Do you care?

1. I'm starting to think no one out there really gives a damn what we have to say...
Too bad for them though...I'm gonna keep saying it. And if they don't listen, I'll find someone who will.

2. What should be done?
What should the president do? What should the Democratic party do?

4. FDR had some good ideas. Too bad our president admires Reagan instead.

6. Jobs programs, National high speed MagLev rail, tax penalties for corporations that ship jobs overse
more investment in education. Acting as if the President and Dems are too stupid and helpless to do jack shit is willfully obtuse at best. FDR had the right ideas.

5. Have you sent this message to Obama? I doubt that he reads DU.
Send a HARDCOPY stamped letter to the White House. If enough people do the same they might at least acknowledge that things really aren't improving for most of us.

8. Part of the problem is that the "American way" ...
...has little to do with either truth or justice.

9. I too have been cynical, bitter and angry. But...
after the election, I felt a sudden sense of peace. It came when I decided that I won't let these evil and idiotic people who are in power control my emotional stability. I will work hard toward bringing about a better nation and a better world, to the extent I am able to make a difference, but beyond that I'm going to watch, wait and look forward to the moment when those who voted these evil idiotic people into office begin to realize what they have wrought. I won't hold my breath, and probably it won't make much difference when they finally do, but meanwhile, I'm not going to let them control me. My action items include helping those who are less fortunate, speaking truth to anyone who will listen, and donating to organizations that are dedicated to the causes I support. Beyond that, my inner peace is up to me. I have a saying--when all else fails, lower your expectations. That I can do without lowering my standards, but I'm not driving myself nuts expecting something that will/may not happen.

One last thing--I'm grateful to DU for offering a forum to share with likeminded, caring folks who are also focused on the future and making the world a better place by being true to themselves.

Blessings and oh, yes, peace.

Class

11. Hi, classof56.
I do some of the things you do to try to make a difference. And I do so partly to help others, and partly for my own piece of mind. Nonetheless ...

12. Perhaps you're right. But give it a little more time.
I really don't want to see everyone hurting, but I can't help believe that that's where we are headed.

And if I'm wrong, I'd really like to see those who are not yet hurting speak up for those who are. -- Sorry to sound cynical, but would someone please let me know when that happens.
