opinions when you yourself, Sid, use the jargon constantly, you yourself are a huge part of that whole clique like oddity of focusing on rec/unrec. You drew more attention to is, gave more importance to it, that any DUer with your streak of xeroxed posts, clearly this 'rec/unrec' drama is pretty central to the way you think of DU. Personally, I don't make many OP's and wouldn't care if it was 'unrec'd' by invisible internet denizens. To be blunt, Sid, I care about popularity and ratings when money is involved, any other time I could not care less about such things.
But to call others 'pathetic' for talking about 'unrec' when you posted 'unrec' so many, many times is just silly. The irony of it is nearly funny, but in the end just annoying, like your posting the same thing again and again and again, this 'unrec' routine, this schoolyard fixation of certain DU denizens.
Mean is not a big selling point Sid, nor is repetition. What do you think it gets you, a rubber biscuit?

It may have been true for a time the rec/unrec prevented "silly" "frivolous" "irreverent" posts from making it to the Greatest Page, and thereby "embarrassing DU"...

NOW... people are unreccing each other, and NOT the post...

And it's inherent negativity encourages the incivility that DU seeks to eradicate.

Sincerely... I couldn't care less about me... some of my posts get recced, some die a quick death.

But... I watch computers at work as part of my job, graphically watching work product move from server to server, from server to human, etc.

Believe me... the Unrec feature has jumped the shark. It is now (many times) a vote of disapproval of a fellow member, and does not lend to making this site more user friendly.

But right before the election (and this wasn't the only time) I posted something that was quite complimentary, in fact totally enthusiastic, about the pre-election moves of the Democratic Party.

And as I turned to other posts, I happened to notice that it got up to 4 Recs, and within 10 minutes it was down to 1.

Maybe I'm confused, but I thought... "Why would anybody object to THAT?"

I'm just concerned that it's become an unnecessary negative fore this site.
