Mark Zuckerberg to Donate Most of His Wealth to Charity
At only 26 years of age, Mark Zuckerberg is one of the world’s youngest billionaires, but he’s not keeping it all for himself. By signing on to Bill Gates and Warren Buffet’s initiative called the “Giving Pledge,” Mark agreed to give most of his wealth to charity.

----

According to Forbes’ estimate, Mark Zuckerberg is worth $6.9 billion, which makes him the 35th most wealthy Americans.

2. But which charity?
His best-known philanthropic effort so far is $100M to help privatize Newark, NJ schools. :eyes:

5. Just because you don't like private schools you think they help no one?

8. They help no one who needs help. "Affordable" charter schools
are a myth. They are no more accessible to the majority of the working class than the Judson School is.

14. Or help *them*. Pete Peterson made the pledge too: his billions are going to his own
Foundation, which is dedicated to teaching the peons that they don't need Social Security.

No joke.

For this, he doesn't have to pay taxes on billions.

3. Did Facebook go public?
I just read a book about Zuckerberg and Facebook, and at the end it still hadn't gone public. I would have thought I'd have noticed that bit of news.

12. Okay then, if Facebook is still not public,
then Zuckerberg's net worth is still only hypothetical. It's going to be vast, but unless he's paying himself a ginormous salary, his current net worth ought to be fairly modest.

if he wants to adopt me and send about 130k my way I wouldn't complain. I'd be in great shape then!

He's a gift and I forgive him for squashing all struggling competitors by now. Buffet too. His quote about his secretary paying more taxes than him is handy to throw out.

19. Here's what I don't like about this type of philanthropy
These people get insanely RICH because of the financial/marketplace climate in the US.. They loathe paying taxes, and often support the most right wing ideologues, and then when they amass "too much" money, they decide to "give it away".. When they do this, they just get MORE tax relief, and get to "choose" whomever THEY deem worthy.

If they paid their fair share all along, that tax money would be in the government coffers, relieving some of the debt we have, and would be available to the "common good"...not for specific pet projects.
