As the Christmas season approaches, it seems like a good time to give thanks for all the blessings we have as citizens of the United States.
First, we should give thanks that we live in a country that has the greatest inequality of wealth distribution of any industrialized nation. The richest 1 percent own 35 percent of the total net worth of this country, while the bottom 80 percent of people own 15 percent. Fortunately, the tax breaks for our wealthiest citizens will allow this disparity to increase.
Imagine how difficult Christmas celebrations for the wealthy would be if the politicians had forgotten them during their time of greed.
We should also thank God for the bankers who make so much money as they foreclose on those unable to pay their mortgages.
