Let's get real...how many out there are not working and NOT GETTING UI

The number game for Unemployment charged when Reagan decided he wanted to look good and stopped using the method of how many people were having money taken out for taxes as the number of people working.

He changed it to .... HOW MANY PEOPLE APPLIED FOR UI benefits.

Well, back in March of this year, I fell off...of the 4 people I know who were on it, three of us have fallen off...

I would say that the number of unemployed is probably 4 time higher than what we are told...I would say this number has been incorrect since the changes with Raygun.

So....Is it time we have a no limit UI.

You cannot expect a Capitalist county, that no longer has the safety nets of returning to the farms, to just drop dead....but that appears to be what they are hoping for. We have to start to penalized companies that move from our shores. From their pockets to the pockets of the people they caused the hardship against.

There is no 26 week crap/cap in Germany or the UK.... As long as you turn in the names of the places and who you spoke to, you will get something....

The punie amounts given under UI are always spent at 100% - you have to...you need every cent to live...

We need to stick together and get America out of the hands of the Corporations.

The American worker is treated like people from a 3rd world country....IT IS TIME THIS KRAP COMES TO AN END.

I haven't looked for a job in 2 years. Thank God my Husband is retired and we owe a very small amount on the house. Their numbers are all bullshit.

11. No. I just got tired of looking and not getting anything,

tired of sending out resumes, tired of interviews and leaving with the feeling that it went great, but no call. I finally accepted the fact that in their eyes I was too old to do the job. I'm lucky my Husband has a pension and we can make do. I've learned to do with less, I haven't been to a Mall in 5 years and it's no big deal. The only thing I miss is my insurance I had from my job. If I'm not looking for a job, why should I get UI?

We used to be...Now the "Personhood" they represent are corporations, there was a hostile takeover while America slept.

3. There is one column

in the Gov't Stats that shows those people who want to work full-time but are working part-time and also includes the underemployed (PhDs. flipping burgers) and that is around 17%.

I actually think we're around 25% on that.

I have a Masters degree in Indus. Engr....all I can find are $8/hour jobs in retail. I don't come from a privileged family so I don't 'know anybody.'

10. You're talking about U6, U5 is the real unemployment rate IMO.

U5 is true unemployment, U6 includes people who have jobs, but they want more work, so IMO they're not technically unemployed. U5 is at 11.3% U6 is at 17.0%. Government uses the U3 rate which is 9.8%.

Our local Fred Meyers...which is as big as a Costco that has a grocery store...Had two people closing the other night...

Two people in a HUGE FACILITY.... I had just come up to the register and the cashier was talking to her boss..

She said..."are you aware it is just me and Jim who will be closing tonight?"

After she finished, I commented that's unbelievable...she then added.."yah, and they just dissolved one of our employee benefits."

Employers know there are 100 people to replace her...so treating them like slaves

I get that it's unemployment "insurance", but considering small business is always fawned over as the "engine to economic growth" they sure are left wolves if it doesn't work out.

Because he had a part time job.

That part time job did NOT cover our expenses. But he was told to stuff it, even after paying in for years. This pittance being tossed into the package of give aways to the rich is obscene.

I am way past sick and tired of the idiots saying "cut it off". Easy for the employed and doing fine to say! Expecting people to not only live but "thrive and be productive" on $8 dollars an hour while the CEO and share holders make millions is disgusting and unholy "slave wages" in action IMO.

13. Me. Laid off 01/01/09. Didn't file for UI as I had no clue I wouldn't be -

- able to find a job with a 35 year work history in the same field. Kept thinking that a job was "just around the corner". After 6 months took part time work in job unrelated to my field. Am getting 1/3 the hours at about 1/3 the pay of my past position with no benefits. Guess I would be considered "under-employed" now.

I was looking at the Discovery channel on the net...and a program called Alaska Gold...the only 3 I looked at started with...I have no money and I have to do something to try to bring money in....Panning for gold..

What have we come to?

PS...I don't have cable, I don't have satellite, I don't have a cell phone, I don't have call waiting or anything but a general line without long distance...I have nothing but the internet. All of these things I use to have...until about 2 years ago when the only job I could find was part time...and that came to an end.

Break it down by lengths of unemployment, including some periods/types still counted in the official unemployment stats, and the periods/kinds that aren't. Could give an idea of magnitude of the uncounted.

Of course, DU'er's probably don't include the biggest share of big earners. But then, most of the population doesn't, either.

neither have I... and trust me, he had short stpells and I am still looking for a job teaching. At the pace we go with the mess in the Post Office, I will take anything at this point to support him while he goes to College on the GI bill.

22. Me. Lots of people don't qualify at all.

The actual crisis is a LOT BIGGER than the numbers.

What makes it worse, is: 1) making people work two jobs to make the income of one; and 2) making old people (and disabled) work long past when they should be retired. We need to increase the minimum wage and retirement/disability benefits, so that they are enough to get by on. That would make many more jobs available that we already do have in the jobs market.

Beyond that, we could have a WPA-type program to build a lot more smaller affordable homes. That would employ a lot of the construction trades, and provide housing that people can afford on what they make. Think of the big number of retirement-age boomers for instance, who have lost so much of their retirement savings. We need a lot more small, newer, affordable homes. I think they would sell like crazy, even now. It would also be great for singles, and couples just starting out or childless. That's a large number altogether.

I have not worked since the summer of 2001.

I had a 9 day temp job in 2001 where I showed initiative, solved a problem quickly by using the nearest computer expert (my DH), in order to save the client time and money, but I didn't follow the employer's protocol (which they never told me) so I had to be punished by being fired.

And according to the bureau of labor statistics, the unemployment rate for people with doctorate/professional degrees is 2.5 percent. So I must be in a select group (sarcasm). I have a Juris Doctor.
