Police: Man molested three young girls over several years
THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

SANTA ANA – Police have arrested a Santa Ana man who they say molested his friend's 13-year-old daughter, as well as her two younger siblings, during nights they spent at his home over the past several years, authorities said.

Investigators responded to a church in Orange about 9 p.m. Wednesday after a 13-year-old girl confessed to a church counselor that she had been repeatedly molested by a family friend over the past three years, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

The girl's parents, as well as her four siblings, were interviewed at the Santa Ana police station, where investigators learned that a 5-year-old and 8-year-old had also been victims, Bertagna said.

Police on Thursday afternoon took Gary Gruber, 48, into custody at his home in the 1200 block of East Fairhaven. He was arrested on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, sexual penetration by threat of retaliation and continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The father met Gruber in jail... then trusted him to babysit his small children after their release?

1. Those
poor girls. Dad and Mom used terrible judgment in leavingg daughters in his care.

3. No kidding
When I searched for a link for this story, to see that man's photo, I half expected someone who looked demonic. One cannot always judge a book by its cover, huh? (sigh)

5. Hopefully, they will terminate their parental rights.
I'm sorry if that sounds harsh.

4. I'd probably rot in jail, but he'd never live to see trial if that had been my kid.
I feel ill at the thought of what he did to those little girls. If that had been my daughter I'm pretty sure that I would and could move heaven and earth to make sure he was not alive to see a trial--let alone rape another little girl.

7. Probably so--but he sure as hell wouldn't do it again.
Seems like a fair deal to me under the circumstances...

I guess I fail the morals test on this one because I'm pretty sure I'd feel that strongly about it.

8. Oh, they moved this from LBN to GD
I wanted this guy to get maximum exposure. Oh well.

Yes, morally, you would have a "right" I'd think. But it seems like whenever a person "takes the law into their own hands" they get punished severely-- much worse than the person who initially committed the crime.

John Walsh discussed this in his books. At one meeting, with parents of murdered children, John Walsh actually had to talk a man down who had a gun in his coat pocket.
