Bush Overall Approval Rating 28% (CBS Poll)
Poll: Bush Faces Skeptical Nation

(CBS) President Bush will deliver his State of the Union address Tuesday night to a nation that's strongly opposed to his plan for increasing troops in Iraq and deeply unhappy with his performance as president, according to a CBS News poll.

Mr. Bush’s overall approval rating has fallen to just 28 percent, a new low, while more than twice as many (64 percent) disapprove of the way he's handling his job.

Two-thirds of Americans remain opposed to the president's plan for sending more than 20,000 additional U.S. troops to Iraq — roughly the same number as after Mr. Bush announced the plan. And 72 percent believe he should seek congressional approval for the troop increase.

Events have not conspired to visit bad luck upon him.

He screwed it up all by himself.

Plenty of Cabinet help, of course, but he's the Commander-in-Chief and has nothing in the positive column to show for his 6 miserable years in office.

There seems to be a rock-solid core of reality-challenged Bush backers that will never abandon him no matter what he says or does. Once he hits 25%, be assured that all thinking Americans disapprove of the twerp.

Hard to understand. If so many Americans hadn't voted for him, the fraud would've been too blatent to make up the difference. It would resemble Mexico's elections.

8. They will be opposed to his new "health" care plan too
I have a very good health plan from work (reason I took this job), but I only make $9.89/hour. So, I will have to have my taxes increased because of my employer's medical insurance so the POOR can get health insurance? Hello? I am RICH? I am Middle Class? What POOR? I am barely threading water on what I make.

his response to the high cost of health care was to not get sick. May he enjoy the South American compound where he won't hear the moans and groans of those he damaged. There's nothing wrong with him that a lifetime supply of anti-depressants couldn't remedy.
Rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg comes to mind.

63. $9.89 per hour equals $20,571 at full-time. How do you do it?
A decent apartment costs at least $500 a month most anywhere in the country - more in many areas. A tank of gas costs $40 for a fuel-efficient car. It's hard to buy a week's groceries for under $150 and that is being very careful. I hardly ever use the heat or air in my apartment and I still pay $40 a month in electricity. (I actually pay more per kilowatt than other customers because I use less energy than other customers, thanks to a deal our utility cut with the state.)

I admire you and everyone else who gets up every morning and goes to work and works hard and is committed to their work and makes very little in return. It's a travesty that so many Americans live on so little while the CEOs are making millions.

46. Slight bump in the head from the rating hitting him in it
Bush is set to talk about two plans of his that are really going to piss the American people off.

First is the surge, and people are already against that.

The other is this healthcare plan of his. Someone was smokin' some serious PCP to even think this would be popular--since it amounts to a major tax increase on the vast majority of Americans. Democrats--you know, the Party of Tax and Spend according to the Mighty Wurlitzer--wouldn't dream of this, but Bush did. You couldn't spin this one fast enough to please Joe Average if you put it on a motor.

I expect the Fox News Poll of 1000 People With Bush Stickers Still On Their Cars to show a decline in his approval rating after this debacle.

18. There's a nice chart at the link below
I don't want to steal their bandwidth -- but clicking on it will get you several graphs. One shows Nixon's below 30% consistently from November 1973 until he resigned the next summer -- so Bush has a little ways to go there. On the other hand, Bush's disapproval ratings are already starting to push past Nixon's.

34. You Don't Get To 28% Without Losing Lots of Republicans....
Bush is toast..... You have Senator Warner of Virginia going directly against Bush's 'surge' in troops by introducing a written resolution. Liddy Dole begins to put space between Bush and herself, saying she has lots of questions that need to be answered.

The CBS poll shows Bush at 28% approval, same as Nixon's poll numbers the night he read his statement on television that he would resign his office.

He is in disapproval poll territory which only a couple of Presidents have ever entered.

The 28% number shows that 'die hard' Republicans are 'falling away' from supporting him, and in fact are publicly opposing him.

In a poll of 1000 freepers, ldotters and Hannity.com subscribers, they received this response:

20 of them said he was the greatest president of all time
20 of them said he was the greatest president since Lincoln
20 of them said he was the greatest president of the 21st Century
20 of them said he was Reaganesque (unfortunately, these were closeted DUers who remember all the known felons in Reagan's administration)
200 of them said he was still a little better than Clinton

It was a poll of a thousand freepers. Obviously they're gonna get twenty infiltrators from DU in there somehow.

If they would have asked a thousand DUers, this is how the conversations would have gone:

"Hello, this is SuperSurveyUSA calling. Do you have a few minutes to answer some questions?"
'Certainly.'
"Do you approve or disapprove of the way the president is doing his job?"
'I disapprove of the way the president is doing his job, and if you call back in fifteen minutes after I finish doing my hair, I'd be overjoyed to disapprove of him again.'

49. On Tax cuts
You have to understand, when the average sheeple hears about a tax cut, their first thought is their paycheck. The payroll tax is what is eating the poor and middle class alive, and has been for a long time. My federal and California taxes were always lower than what was taken out of my paycheck every period - which varied as I often worked contract.

They hear tax cut, and they don't think end-of-year, they are thinking payroll. They are scared to death of their payroll going up (or back up in their small minds). And you have the freeper type - even if they aren't on the internets tube system - who honestly believes he/she can become a millionaire, if only they worked harder.

I heard a caller on AAR who claimed to have a million in assets. All it took was being positive - and likely lying and cheating like mad. I was wondering however.. is that truly liquidated tomorrow million, or she paid a million and has god awful debt...

Understand, there are also loads f just plain stupid who vote GoP because they always have. They completely believe all the crap from faux news. And don't ignore the religious nutters. As far as the blood cultists - the revelationists -are concerned, shrub is right on track to bringing the end of the world.

I imagine his number will never fall below 18, if they even go below 23%. That reflects die hard morons. Zealots, and, of course, the crazy rich. I'm not saying there arent responsible rich who are against him, but it's all a game to them. It must be hard being crazy rich, and wanting to oppose shrub but can't because your other crazy rich friends will shun you.

anyway ... go concrete shoes bush!

51. Barely a dent.
At this point, ratings make barely a dent in the bottom line of the Bush-Clinton crime family.

52. The only way his approval rating will go up after tonight's speech
is if he delivers his resignation in it. The country is sick of this loser.

58. dangerous
I'm happy that more and more Americans are finally coming around, but WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG?! Twenty-eight percent means nothing to Bush though. If anything, it just makes him more dangerous. Now Bush/Cheney/neocons may feel they have absolutely nothing to loose. And I don't know if the Democratic Congress can or will be able to stop these insane monsters. If another terrorist attack occurs on our soil, we can say good bye to whatever is left of our democracy. Bush will be emperor, and Congress will be nothing more than a token left over from a much happier and democratic past.

Daddy's low was 28%; if I'm not mistaken, that was at the end of his presidency. Shithead has 2 more years to drop like a stone.

WORST AMERICAN PRESIDENT IN HISTORY: The People have spoken.

:)

on edit: 41's low was a Gallup Poll, not CBS.
