With Filibuster, C-SPAN Has A Hit On Its Hands
Mr. Sanders has gone to C-SPAN.
Senator Bernard Sanders, independent of Vermont, started speaking against the Obama administration’s tax cut deal on Friday morning, in full view of C-SPAN2’s cameras, and by lunchtime his old-fashioned filibuster was a social media sensation, with untold thousands of people commenting in real-time on Web sites like Twitter. The live video remains available on C-SPAN’s Web site.
Sensing an opportunity, C-SPAN2 — the Senate-oriented sister channel to C-SPAN, which chiefly covers the House of Representatives — promoted the event on its Web site and Twitter account. Taking lessons from the production values of cable news, a graphic on the bottom of the C-SPAN2 screen told viewers, “ALERT: Sen. Sanders Began What He Calls a Tax Cut Filibuster at 10:25am ET.”
All C-SPAN2 needs now is a clock to tick away the minutes that the senator has been speaking.

3. funny, some DU-ers told me everyone was watching american idol or some such trash.
the only people interested in the filibuster were political junkies.

the filibuster was a waste of time, according to these authorities.

5. It does make me wonder why he doesn't just have the Repubs pretend he's filibustering,
like they do to the dems all the time. "Oh, come on - don't make us REALLY stand here and talk, just pretend that we're standing here for... let's say, seven days."

Dems: "Ok, you don't need to really do it. That's an impressive filibuster!"

I listened to him for a while this morning soon after he started - fantastic!

10. usually they are so coherent or educational - Bernie had a wealth
of knowledge of decades and he explained how we have been thrown under the bus time and time again - it was a joy to hear that someone actually listens and knows what is going one - most seem deaf

7. Filibuster seems so irrational.
Of course, I support Sanders' position, but the filibuster has no place in a rational government.

9. So when Republicans "filibuster" take the floor and talk against their

position until they vote cloture!

And take turns, don't let one Senator out there all alone.

12. If Wellstone had lived, he would have been there helping. So it ended up that
no one helped Sanders?

I heard all of the afternoon talk. I thought it was spectacular.

Some days you can feel proud because someone's speaking for you.

14. Yes. He had help from Senator Sherrod Brown
and from Mary Landrieu. In addition, Barbara Boxer and some other senators have offered support. Mary Landrieu represents to many very poor people, and Sherrod Brown represents a state with severe economic difficulties.
