Without jobs, the economy will tank anyhow
and this Tax deal does nothing to address the jobs issue. It has not been proven that the tax cut for the wealthy will create jobs, so why are we caving to the threat of a double dip recession. The recession is going to happen regardless. I am very confused here.

1. The wealthy have had their tax breaks for a decade and we've lost jobs during that decade.
Cause and effect?

How can an extension magically create jobs?

7. Magically, duh!
That's one thing that the Republicans have failed to properly demonstrate: HOW tax cuts for the rich create jobs. It's easy to see how cutting taxes for lower/middle class drives the economy: they buy things, driving up demand for goods and services, causing businesses to create more product or hire more staff to handle demand.

But as far as the rich getting tax breaks: Sure, they're generally the ones doing the hiring, but without demand, they won't hire anyway. If I were running a business and there was a demand of 100 for my product, I'd make 100 so I can meet that demand. There would be no need to create 105 of my product, because that 5 won't sell. So the govt gives me a big tax break. Woo hoo, there's still only 100 demand for my product, and I'm only making 100 of my product. I get more money in my pocket because I'm paying less tax.

And that's the bottom line for Republicans, the rich have more money.

Now, let's take my business as the example, and give tax cuts to the lower/middle class. Before my product had a demand of 100. Now more people are buying my product, so now my demand is 105. My workers have to create more product, and thus work more hours getting more money. Since my workers are lower/middle class, they spend that money on goods/services. Eventually the money works back around to me, now demand is 110. Rinse, repeat. I'm hiring more people and making more money.

It really baffles me how so many people don't understand that.

2. I tend to agree...
Our focus should be on creating jobs. Nothing here does that.

3. Yep, jobs are the key, and here's the irony: There's much work to be done
but instead, we're just sitting here waiting for the oncoming train.

4. All I can see is the expectation that 'time heals all wounds' if we wait it out
it has to get better. Tax breaks and the decrease in the payroll deduction are just temporary band-aids for those who HAVE jobs, band-aids for the economy to keep chugging along not to really stimulate it much or help it grow, more is needed.

If there could be stiffer taxes/penalties for companies sitting on their record cash reserves or benefits to opening facilities/hiring in America, helping get fair trade, loans and breaks for small businesses starting up etc those could help create jobs.

8. With jobs we would have had no wars to begin with
There was a day in this country when our factory workers were too important to send off to die.

This is a one of those chicken and the egg things.
