Obama takes credit for compromise
President Barack Obama reprised his defense of his tax cut compromise with Republicans in his weekly address on Saturday, arguing that the fate of middle class families - and the still-fragile economic recovery - is at stake as lawmakers consider the proposal.

“The opportunity for families to send their kids to college hinges on this debate,” Obama said. “And our recovery will be strengthened or weakened based on the choice that now rests with Congress.”
The president also distanced himself from irate Democrats and satisfied Republicans by taking credit for the decision to compromise.

Though Democrats has been spoiling for a White House fight with Republicans to end expiring tax cuts for the nation's highest earners, Obama said middle class taxes would rise by an average of $3000 if a deal was not struck - an "unacceptible" proposition. Going to the mat with the GOP on high-end tax cuts, he said, was not worth the potential cost to families struggling to get by in tough times.

“That’s why I brought both Democrats and Republicans to the table – to put together a compromise, and work through our differences, so we could get this done,” Obama said.

Though he does not believe the tax cuts for the wealthy or generous estate tax rates that made many Democrats furious are sound policy, Obama said that the final proposal is “a good deal for the American people” and includes tax breaks that protect working families.

2. He made this deal assuming that he could get lockstep support from Democrats.
Just as he did with the health insurance company enrichment act. The only difference, this time, is that Democrats in Congress are rufusing to just "go along" with the deal the President struck before debate even began. This time, they're fighting him, and he's pissed about that. He expects lockstep loyalty, regardless of the merits of the underlying legislation.

I, for one, am glad that Congress has decided that they're not going to just "go along to get along" this time.

5. The Last Gasps Of The Blue Dogs...
That's why there's the urgency to ram this "compromise" through ASAP...we'll see many liberal and progressive Congresscritters vote this down but there's still enough Blue Dogs along with rushpublicans to get the 219 needed to pass whatever crap the Senate grinds out. The moment you hear that the House is scheduling a vote, then you know the votes are there. If Obama waits til after the new year the Blue Dogs go away and the votes for any bill will be impossible to get...

It seems apparent that Obama is believes he can't win a fight with the Repubs even if he goes to the mat, thus, he won't even try!

So, there you have it, "Yes We Can" was nothing more than a convenient campaign slogan!! The reality is this president is not a fighter and won't even enter the ring because he's predisposed to losing.

Sad, so very sad. He coulda' been a contender, if only he had waited. He should have stayed in the senate another 8 years and then ran for president. He probably would have been much seasoned and capable of dealing with the challenges of the position and the opposition.
